Wood, strings, and magnets, my friend. They don't always behave exactly the same way. Little things add up! And a few tweaks to setup and pickup height can change everything.
I have certain guitars that just seem to work for certain styles, even though they are very similar to others in my collection. Could I play those styles with different guitars? Sure, but if there is mojo in a certain one, why not use the best one? I used to be a bit cynical about the idea of an old guitar with history working for you, but the necks do in fact wear based on your hands (as EVH discovered when EBMM did a digital scan of his favorite neck before creating his first sig guitar), and I have to think all of those good vibrations create a little extra mojo somehow. Virtually every great guitarist has at least 1-2 guitars that he uses for his entire career, his Mojo Axe. The street value of those guitars is irrelevant to them...
