s this any good? Are the Samick Artist series top of the line?

it's less than USD200.. Worth it? I have a pair of SD 59's lying around...

I already have the newer Indonesian made Samick AV3 since last year... I'm saving up for an edwards, but this goes so cheap...

anyway, once i have more pics from the seller, i'll post it here! the specs are all true to vintage Gibsons? full maple cap, mahogany body and neck, etc.Look gorgeous btw...

thanks a lot. hope you can help me out here :)

Re: Samick Artist Series Les Paul: Worth it?

Wow that looks really nice, especially for a cheap guitar. I honestly can't say whether or not it's worth it, but for that kind of money, why not? If it sucks, you can always resell it on ebay and buy something else. If you're looking at LP copies, then I'm sure you've heard of agile by now. I bought one recently and am really impressed with it. It still needs some work on the setup since I put the 12 gauge strings on, but otherwise a very nice looking/playing guitar for 300. Lately tho, I have been GAS'sing for an edwards jimmy page or 59 replica really bad.

Re: Samick Artist Series Les Paul: Worth it?

The serial number is S01014316. Is it built in 2001? The seller says the fretboard is ebony? How true is this?

Thanks

Re: Samick Artist Series Les Paul: Worth it?

$200? Grab it, very decent guitars. The board is not ebony.

Re: Samick Artist Series Les Paul: Worth it?

The seller quoted me USD200 w/ gig bag, excluding shipping.

Here are the glory shots! The back is not one piece, I think, while the scarf joint is clearly visible too... But nice frets...

Any more comments are greatly appreciated.

Re: Samick Artist Series Les Paul: Worth it?

For $200 it's a good value. Samick has been building lower and mid-level instruments for Epiphone and almost every other guitar manufacturer for years. While there are debates on the quality of those instruments, I'm sure they kept the best pieces for themselves. So, I bet that this guitar is at least not worse than an Epi Les Paul built at the same factory, and probably better.

Re: Samick Artist Series Les Paul: Worth it?

just a final confirmation before i take delivery of it...

is the top a full maple cap? it looks like one to me...

thanks

Re: Samick Artist Series Les Paul: Worth it?

i'm almost sure it's a flame maple veneer glued over a plain maple top. in this price range noone makes solid flame maple tops AFAIK, it would be too expensive. you can't tell it by the photos, you have to look into the pickup cavity to see that.

Re: Samick Artist Series Les Paul: Worth it?

Samick actually builds some decent guitars. A couple of years ago, I played a Samick LP replica and was very impressed with it. For this price, go for it.. If it doesnt float your boat, sell it again..

Let us know whether you like it..

Re: Samick Artist Series Les Paul: Worth it?

From the horn (anyone remember the Guild Bluebird?), that looks like the guitar Samick sells as a "Silvertone". It's not Samick's top of the line by about $400. Still, it's not a bad guitar for $200. Not bad at all, I like them better than the ones branded "Samick" that sell for the same price.

Re: Samick Artist Series Les Paul: Worth it?

JUmp all over that at 200! who cares if it's plywood and poplar.

Re: Samick Artist Series Les Paul: Worth it?

I have a Samick Artist series (335 Style) SAN-450. I picked it up for $200 And I'm amazed how well it plays. Replace the El cheapo hareware and Pups,And now you can truly call it a artist series. My headstock is scarf jointed to the neck... So What? IMO this is better construction technique. Maybe not as pretty and defy's tradition, But it can with stand abuse that would kill a Gibson. Most Samicks are great player's guitars ( they do have some Turds) But most are gems considering they are mass produced guitars.
