So I'm watching the G3 dvd and I really gotta ask. Satch's tone sounds like nothing that an amp alone would create. It has a massive distortion sounds with good dynamics and it feedsback easy and the pinches come out easy. I want to recreat this sound, not his tone but the feel and effect. I have an all tube Crate Blue Voodoo and a Les Paul with a JB humbucker. I'm guessing that maybe a DS-1 pushing my amp dist. when it's at half gain and mixing the 2 distortions together? What are your guys thoughts?

Re: Satch Dist.

I saw a pic of Satch's board awhile ago, and if I remember correctly he has a DS-1, Keeley Modded Tubescreamer, and an MXR Wylde OD on it....

Re: Satch Dist.

JSX Amp, ZW OD, Keeley DS-1 and TS, some chorus and delay pedals...

Mixing dist's is the only way to get his tone, or even near it.

Re: Satch Dist.

hes been using a ds1 live for years. the sound coming out of the amp probably isnt the same as you hear from the board either

Re: Satch Dist.

If I had to guess. I believe most of his distortion comes from his DS-1, which I am sure is modded to his liking. Whether it is a tube screamer or something else he is boosting the signal of the DS-1. It makes for a really nice heavy tone with lots of sustain. I dought he is mixing gains with his amp and DS-1. He is just running it into a clean channel. He is also using the gain channel on his signature amp too. It looked liked he jumped back and forth between the gain on his amp and or using his DS-1, depending on the sound he was looking for a peticular song. That is what I could see a least the last time I saw him in Oct. Keep in mind that he also uses his Chandler echos too. They can add an awfull lot to the sound, including a kind of modulated sustain, and not only delay. That is what I have noticed from mine anyways.
