Saving presets on a TC G-Force with Disaster area midi controller

Re: Saving presets on a TC G-Force with Disaster area midi controller

Your question does not entirely compute.

The preset patches for the effect unit are saved in the effect unit memory. All that a remote MIDI controller can do is recall the preset patches using MIDI Patch Number instructions.

I suspect that the procedure that needs to be performed is MIDI Mapping.

Since the transmitted Bank/Patch numbers on the DMC8 are fixed, you need to make the edits in the TC effect unit. Essentially, you "translate" the patch numbers that the DMC8 can transmit to whichever preset patches you want the G-Force to recall.

Thanks Funk, will have to try that. I had been using a Lexicon MPX R-1 that allowed programs of any preset number to be saved into any bank regardless of their preset number, but that board took up too much real estate. The DMC uses letter vs number designations for presets which I'm hoping won't cause problems mapping. If it does, I might just have to save/arrange my presets to configure to the DMC.

Even if the DMC controller presents patch selections as Bank and Preset, what it actually transmits down the wire is a patch memory location number.

MIDI Mapping is the process by which the effect unit "translates" the incoming numbers to the onboard patch numbers.

Re: Saving presets on a TC G-Force with Disaster area midi controller

You'll need to read up on the controller's method of operation, specifically how it calls the unit in question. For effect units that offer a dedicated controller, such as the Digitech units, these two are generally programmed to work together in a specific manner, where the controller calls a given patch directly. For pure MIDI-based units controllers, you may not have this option, as with the ART X-15, which deals with MIDI numbers. You then need to know whether each unit uses 0-255 or 1-256 MIDI numbering. If the rack unit uses 0-255 and the controller uses 1-256, then when the pedal calls MIDI number 1, the rack transmits 0.

Some units allow you to set the numbering scheme, while others don't.

However, there should be a mapping menu in the rack that allows you to set MIDI controller to MIDI numbers. This is generally a universal setting in the unit, and is saved automatically. If your controller allows for multiple banks, then you would have to see how that works in the user manual in relation to how you will call functions on the rack unit.

Got it figured out, MIDI mapped everything through my JMP-1. Less complicated than mapping through the TC. Thanks for the input guys!

Re: Saving presets on a TC G-Force with Disaster area midi controller

That's another option. I've previously used my GSP21 as the master MIDI controller for my TSR-12 when I used it through the loop of a combo. Change a patch on the GSP21 with its controller, and the TSR12 changes with it. That was long before I got the X-15, though, and I couldn't use it to enable/disable specific effects, so if I wanted Chorus, I had to duplicate an existing patch and add Chorus to it.
