Say Hello To Black Betty

Imperator of Indignation
She's a Squire Telecaster Custom that I bought tonight off Craiglist for $100. The person who had it for sale said there were new Schaller tuners and he thought there was a set of 59's in the guitar. I thought that the pickups were probably stock and that he didn't know what he was talking about since I didn't see the logo. He said that the wiring didn't work which didn't bother me any. So I brought it home and opened it up and there is a set of 59's, CTS pots and sprague caps! All 4 pots were wired as volumes, so that is why the wiring didn't work correctly and the jack socket needs to be replaced. I might also need to replace the neck volume because that doesn't work correctly even after resoldering it. They didn't spare any expense when upgrading it, but they botched the wiring so they sold it cheap.

Re: Say Hello To Black Betty

sweet that's a legit price for one with 59s. I had one many years ago that I tried a custom custom and later D-Activator in, and it was a cool guitar. Love the look.

Re: Say Hello To Black Betty

absolute steal for 100 bucks, the electrics in it are worth that much. congrats on the score
:beerchug:

that switch tip's not standard either, btw.

Re: Say Hello To Black Betty

So basically you got a free guitar with the purchase of a pair of pickups. SCORE!!!

Re: Say Hello To Black Betty

Why can I never find a deal like that? A free playable pickup holder for the price of a set of used pickups... Congrats on the NGD!!!

Re: Say Hello To Black Betty

Sweet!

You'll have to let me know how it sounds. I've been thinking about doing exactly the same thing.

I've also been wanting the Custom II w/P90s, but really I've already got P90 guitars out the wazoo. But if I got one of those I liked, I might thin the heard.

Black is definitely the way to go on Customs.

Re: Say Hello To Black Betty

I fixed the bridge volume pot today and refreshed to switch wiring. Everything works as it should at this point. I think I might keep the 59's. The bridge is brighter, clearer and hotter than I expected for a PAF replica, which confirms my past experience with the 59's. I will probably put a A8 magnet in the bridge and a A3 in the neck. I will also cut the fillister screws short and possibly replace the neck poles with hex screws. I may also put a treble bleed on the neck tone so that it isn't so dark when rolled up.

Re: Say Hello To Black Betty

Too funny I call my black Iceman Black Betty, I call my MIM black Tele Jose Negro. Sweet guitar a nice find for a buck.
