Scallopped Frets

Has anybody tried them? The only experience I've had is with Vai's Ibanezes which have the high frets schallopped. Malmsteen's whole neck is done up and I've been thinking about trying some, but there are no guitars anywhere around me for me to try it out on.
What do you guys think about 'em?

Prepare to learn to play with a very light touch. If you fret the string with much force, you'll bend it sharp.

I love mine on my Ernie Ball/Music Man. A very light touch, but less resistance for bending- over time you will develop a graceful flowing style. Great for microtonal bends in Eastern music too. I love mine.

I think that they're fantastic, but do take some getting used to. I love how my vibrato sounds when I play on scalloped boards.

+1 I bought a fender Lead I neck that was scallopped for $10 Thought I
got the deal of the century ? bolted it on ,strung it up, Intonated it Than
i had to run to rehersal late. (didn't get to try it 1st) I play very heavy
handed (Almost brutal :laugh2: ) it was a disaster looking for a place
to happen. :smack:

Re: Scallopped Frets

Hahaha! Wow, you'd think he'd stop after messing up one fret...

I scalloped my own fretboard. It is really easy and time consuming, but pretty cool in the end. It feels a lot like having super-giant frets. If you have a light touch, you'll immediately notice that you can bend with serious authority :) There is a lot of hype about them being really easy to play and whatnot, but I don't find it to be much different than any other neck, it just feels like extremely tall fretwire.

Hope that helps!

Re: Scallopped Frets

Ok, now I'm curious about it too... does anybody have good instructions? If most of my guitars already have extra-jumbo frets, is it even worth the trouble?
