Schecter Hellraiser C-X FR

Hey all,

I've been eyeing the Schecter Hellraiser series, the ones with the FR, and I'm wondering in general how good they are? None of my local shops seem to have em, and I'm remiss to drop $1000 on a 7 or 8 string I can't play first. I would also likely swap out the EMGs for Duncan Actives, or maybe even move it back to passives, but as far EMG to SD active, is there anything special going on, or can you do the same quick swap that funny video shows (I'll have to go buy some beer to do this properly).

I really like the aesthetic, but of course playability is paramount to looks, so anyone here had a go at them? Are the mid range Schecters in general nice guitars?

Thanks in advance!

The hellraiser series are good guitars. The usual gawdy schecter-esque appointments.

You might want to do yourself a favour and check out the ATX series from last year or year before last. They come loaded with Duncan actives and are comparable to the Hellraisers. I wasn't a big fan of the neck shape, sort of a D/Fat C shape. I like thin C's.

Also the ATX series doesn't look as over the top as the Hellraisers.

I don't have a problem with the aesthetic of the hellraisers, that's actually what pulled me in. I've seen LTD do some gaudy things with their binding/inlays, but I personally find the quilted red look and the thin abalone binding to be a little more pleasant.

I don't necessarily mind EMGs, I'm more wondering for the sake of options if swapping to Duncans is just a quick swap, or if EMGs and Duncans use different connectors.

I recently picked up a Schecter Omen Extreme 6, and have been very impressed with the guitar.

The only Schecter I've ever liked is the Jeff Loomis 7string sig. The neck is really nice and comfy. I'm too a ''thin C'' -guy, so I don't fancy the other necks Schecter has. I've heard that the new SLS series is really nice and they've shaped the neck differently (=thinner).

But if you don't mind the neck and the gaudiness Schecters are really good workhorses. Very solid axes.
