Schecter or Ibanez?

I am looking at getting either a Schecter C-1 Plus or an Ibanez SZ series guitar. Any experiences with either? Which was more versatile? Which was warmer? Which was better built/better overall quality, etc? I'm aware that the Plus has a 24.75" neck and the SZ series have 25.1" necks so I know that will make a slight difference but that doesn't bother me at all.

Re: Schecter or Ibanez?

The Schecter is 25.5" scale length, not 24.75", all in all, having played both guitars...they're both nice, but I'd try them out side-by-side and see which one you like playing better.

Actually the C-1 plus is 24.75" all other C-1s are 25.5", but yeah that is a great tip about playing them side by side. Thanks

Weird, I wonder if it actually is...I don't think I've played this particular model, but Schecter's site isn't exactly known for accuracy :p Anyway, the "V" inlays in them are really cool looking.

Re: Schecter or Ibanez?

Speaking of Schecter have you guys ever played their extended scale guitars? I know the Blackjack series come stock with the real jb/59 set maybe as a trade off to the "maple top" (since they are all mahog w/maple neck) that most of the other Schecter's have with Duncan Designed pups. Anyhow back to the Blackjack topic both the C-1EX and C-7 have a 26.5" scale. I can't seem to find these anywhere except online and even then they are usually sold out. Anyone play either one?

Re: Schecter or Ibanez?

I've played the C7 Hellraiser, the extended scale is fine for me but it just didn't fit me right with this guitar, it really seemed to jut out too far, I think that's my problem with Schecter's C series and me. I do however, play the ESP baritones just fine, which is weird considering the scale is even longer at 27".

Re: Schecter or Ibanez?

I'm a big fan of Schecter, I don't really like Ibanez...although the SZ series is decent.

Re: Schecter or Ibanez?

I've loved every Schecter I've played (besides some cheap **** ones setup horribly). I've owned three, and only sold the other two because they weren't 7's. The only reason a Schecter won't be my next axe is because they don't offer one with the features I want.

Needless to say, Schecters kick ****ing ass ;). I only like 3-4 Ibanez models.

I had a C1+ for years, they are for sure 24.75" scale and are great guitars. I would pick the Schecters way before the SZ (which are basically Ibanez' take on that design anyways ;) ). I only sold mine to help fund a USA Hamer.

And that Schecters and ESP LTDs pretty much come out of the same factory :laugh2:, though of course there are still differences.

Guitar Center is not allowed to sell ESP (unless they buy it off someone and sell it used) because they share the same factory with Schecter. Exclusive rights I guess.

Re: Schecter or Ibanez?

The only complaint I have about SZ's is that they look like they have 10 pounds of clear coat on them. Probably got the idea from PRS :p

Re: Schecter or Ibanez?

If prefer Ibanez though Schecter are right up there as well. If you're thinking about extended scale check out some of the old Ibanez 7s floating around. They are awesome. Really I think they are close enough quality wise you'll need to play them side by side.

Re: Schecter or Ibanez?

If you want a good guitar with a neck that isn't a piece of paper, go schecter, I'll never go anything else.

Re: Schecter or Ibanez?

Even though I'm not a big fan of Schecter you should get it. I think some of the SZ's are Korean and Korean Ibanez's are great examples of how low Korean craftsmanship can be.

Re: Schecter or Ibanez?

the Artcore & SZ series display reputable craftsmanship from China & Korea respectively. before these guitars were introduced, the issue with far eastern makes are more on the negative front (wrt to Ibanez).
