Schecter UltraCure Dullness

Hi Guys,

so i've played a few of these.

Unplugged they are great, very resonate and responsive.

Pugged in? Not so much. A little muddy, lifeless and just dull.

I'm thinking it's the Mahogany body, neck and roserood fretboard and those 59's in it.

Without going to extreme do you think putting an A8 mag in the bridge and A4 or A2 in the neck would help? Otherwise i was going to put in some Humbucker sized WRHB's made by curtis novak in it.

Thanks

JK

First of all...if you've got '59's in there now and you feel that it sounds "a little muddy", you may have a problem. The '59 isn't a muddy pup.

You could try putting in an A3 mag and see if that helps the muddiness, but if it also sounds "lifeless and just dull", the A3 will probably exacerbate that. An A2 would make it sound even muddier.

You may have to try some different pups: Custom, C5, Distortion, Jazz, C5/59 hybrid, etc.

You could try putting in an A3 mag and see if that helps the muddiness, but if it also sounds "lifeless and just dull", the A3 will probably exacerbate that. An A2 would give some midrange and some life to it, but it would tend to make it sound even muddier.

Second of all....I can't help but feel that the amp you were playing through may be the biggest, problem if those '59s are "A little muddy, lifeless and just dull".

So what amp are you using?

Speakers?

Stomps?

I'm with 'doc here - if the guitar is great acoustically then a good PAF shouldn't be dull.

The only caveat here is that some guitars need a slightly higher output pickup to make up for some missing bulk in the guitar.
