Re: Screamin' Demon A8 first impression
I saw that you did that in another post, and I tried it, so thanks! It sounded really nice, but I needed a bit more bottom to compete with the A2P at the neck, since the A2P has a bit of a woofy bottom. So I now have two entire rows of fillister-head screws in the demon, and it sounds quite nice at the bridge of this particular guitar. That's when I looked at the extra hex screws and said "hmmm...". The one thing I didn't like about the A2P at the neck was this touch of woofiness in the lowest strings. Putting the hex screws in the three low slots cured it. This guitar just sings at medium to high gain now with the neck pickup.
I love soloing with a neck pickup. But you really have to get it "right" and tame those lower strings. A C5 would have worked, but I love the sweetness of the A2P. It has an almost single-coil attack, and this just saved that PUP for neck use in this guitar. (And still sounds great clean). I may put a fillister head screw back under the D string and see if that works since it was not particularly woofy before. But I am absolutely loving this PUP now. I *like* the demon8 with 12 screws, but for true love I really want something more similar to the A2P, just with more heat to keep up volume-wise with the neck.
