I was playing around with a SD the other day, modifying it to install slugs in place of the allen screws. After removing the tape from the bobbins I noticed something unusual. Looking closer I realized there was a copper ribbon around each bobbin; underneath it appeared to have normal insulated wire. These ribbons had a jumper between them.
I've not seen this before; is this some shielding design, which seems likely, or is there a sonic reason for this setup?
