Screamin demon in ES335

Have a new Gibson ES guitar with caliberated t pickups and contemplating something from Duncan in a Paf flavour. I think I tend to prefer A5 vs A2 and curious about the screamin demon pair for neck and bridge. Would it be too biting in the treble for upper register soloing? I do find the caliberated t pups to have a lot of treble but I can seem to dial them in.

I have a D'Angelico 335 with a demon with A8 magnet in the bridge and Jazz with A4 magnet. They balance very well.

What don't you like about what you have now? I don't presume you came here to have someone try and sell you on funny magnets.

If you want a good PAF-type in a 335-alike, I'd go with something like a Seth Lover or Antiquity, which sound great in semi-hollows, and are extremely touch-sensitive.

I actually dont mind the stock pick ups at all...just cant help but want to change something to see if theres some better tones I'm missing out on.

I did look at alnico pro ii and pearly gates but I dont know if they're going to take gain as well as an A5 type and push out the pinch harmonics the same as something like a screamin demon.

I always say that if you like the guitar sound, don't change the pickups in hopes for something better- you will get something different, but not 'better' in a way. It depends on the kind of gain you use. If it is a lot of preamp gain (like metal), you might not like the mushy A2 sound. If it is like a Plexi gain, you would love it.

You shouldn't have any problem with a Demon. The 335s I've had tend to be less aggressive/direct in the highs and lows, with the mids being pushed forward a bit. The scoop of the Demon would likely work pretty well. The actual guitar and your amp settings will obviously be the determining factors, though. I've had really interesting results with using a Full Shred neck for PAF-ish tones and I've been thinking about trying that in mine.

Thanks for that. I wasnt sure if the ES was inherently a trebly guitar or the pickups that I was hearing and was afraid the demon would be too much treble.

Obviously, everyone describes sound differently and every guitar is different but the few I've owned and all the ones I've played all displayed varying degrees of the tone I described.

I have a WLH set in my 335; does a great mid-70s Alex Lifeson tone without getting too thick or too bright up top.

When I think of A5 and pinch harmonics, the first thing that comes to mind is a '59/Custom Hybrid. I've never tried it in a 335, but it kills in my Les Paul and the pinch harmonics are just about effortless.

I would try A5s in the Gibson pickups. At least the BBs have responded favorable to magnet swaps and have a pair in my ES335 build with a varitone.

I dropped a set of hbp90s in my as73. A set of tonerider rebel 90s.

They work really well in this application.

I tried a few different sets of humbuckers, but none "did it" for me as well as them.
