Hi,sorry if this has been asked a million times but Ive a H/s/s alder body with a floyd trem.Im thinking of getting a screamin demon bridge pup,but what will suit it in the 2 other single coil size slots? I'm a hard rock/metal kind of player but like the option to tone it down as well. Thanks for any help!

Welcome to the forum!!!!

The 1st and most important question is - what tone are you going for? and what style...

Everything that's has a little less output should work pretty well. If you're planning to split it when using with the middle pickup I would go for something with lower output, like the SSL-1.
Another thing to consider is pot values, humbuckers work well with 500k pots, single with 250k... Dimarzio claim that their noiseless pickups work better with 500k - so it might be an interesting combination on the guitar, stack and railed pickups also work well with those values...
If you're going for 250k - the Screamin Demon should work well enough because it's relatively bright (would be less bright with the pot) - and then you'll have a wider choice of single coils.

Re: Screamin demon

Thanks for that :)
Could I put a lil screamin in the neck position?I'm a complete novice at this sort of thing.Would I use a wiring diagram for a HSH config if I did that?

Re: Screamin demon

I wouldn't advise using a 250k pot w/ the demon. The low end turns to mush.

What's your control setup right now?

Yes, you can use a lil demon in the neck. They are surprisingly good in that position. You would wire it up as an H/S/H

I'd put an SSL1 or a 5/2 in the middle. if you decided to go w/ a rails. A cool rails would suit you well in the middle.

Im building from scratch,Ive got a Jackson dk body and neck, that's it so far!

Re: Screamin demon

I actually think the Demon sounds great with a 250k pot. I've never had a problem with the bass responce mushing out on me. I would go with a set of APS-1s in the neck and middle... but then those are my favorite sc pups.

Re: Screamin demon

This largely depends on what kind of flavor you want in the neck and middle positions. If you want a setup that would give you strat-like tones then sticking to true single coils would be your best bet (and not something I have enough experience with to really help out with). In the single-sized buckers, though, I used to run a Demon with a Cool Rails (neck) and Vintage Rails (middle) that was a very nice set - one I regret unloading. It was a well rounded pickup set that tonally covered a ton of ground. That said, it didn't have a typical "strat" single coil sound to it, not even in the notch positions.

In my experience, you couldn't make the Screamin Demon muddy with a bucket of dirt and a gallon of water. I had success running the Demon in a Les Paul with 300K pots and the low end was quite tight. Therefore I think personal taste and the other pickup choices are the best way to decide what pots to use. I wouldn't automatically rule one value out because convention says so.

Re: Screamin demon

To be honest I'm considering putting a pickguard on it and covering the middle position up,I cant ever remember using it anyway.Plus I've got my strat to cover the single coil base's anyway

Re: Screamin demon

I understand completely. The guitar I had that Demon/VR/CR set it has been gutted and stripped. When assembled there's a good chance it will go to H-X-S like another project I've got going on because I very very rarely found myself using any position with the middle pickup on. I was constantly going from CR to Demon and back.

Re: Screamin demon

also look into the new Stack Singles STK-4 they have a good response here. Vintage sound (like SSL1) with no hum!
