SD 59n 2 conductor with red and black wires

I have a guitar that came with these pickups in it and I have never come across this wiring color in a Duncan before. SD 59n 2 conductor with red and black wires and a bare ground and shield in black casing. Is this something new or old or what? I have been playing with SD pickups for a loonng time and have not come across this before. I am thinking maybe someone replaced the leads on it or something?

Unusual.... And AFAIK not somethign that was ever on a production Duncan.

It`s possible that the lead was swapped post purchase, and it`s possible that it`s not a real Duncan. but without pics, we can`T really say anything definitive at all, which is why nobody has said anything ;)

Could it possibly be a coil tap wire?

It would also help if you could take some resistance readings on those wires.

A typical Duncan, Dimarzio or Gibson humbucker with 2-con + shield cable would have the conductor insulation in white and black, respectively.

Could be non-original cable.

It definitely sounds like a '59. The black casing seems heavier than normal too. I am thinking this has been "re-cabled". IT works fine and all, just odd. :)

Have you striped the covering back a little to see if there's a green wire?

That's not the kind of lead Duncan uses. It most probably was a stock '59 with the braided lead, and it was converted to a three-conductor, instead of using the standard shielded, 4-conductor + bare.

The rest looks ok, I guess.

Yes, not there. I think one of them is hooked up to cut the coil. I will mess around with it again and see what's up. Just wanted to see if this was something that someone had seen before. Thanks -Frank
