What SD pickup would be closet to a Gibson '57 Classic Plus (Bridge)? Nickel or Chrome covered.

Thanks,... Robert

Nothing is *that* close....hence why I bought the classic plus and a classic instead of Duncans for my Firebird..

I really wish Duncan would put out an overwound 59 and an overwound Seth....

The 59 will be closest in tone to the 57 classics though...they are both even wind PAFs ...59's are a bit brighter, and have tighter bass and a bit less mids than the 57 classics/C+

A nickel ‘59 with an alnico II magnet swap would be pretty close.

Pearly Gates is like the '57 Classic so maybe take a '57 Classic plus and install an Alnico II.

Both the PG and the 57 are Alnico II

And they sound Vastly different to my ears..

Re: SD closest to '57 Classic Plus ??

I can't speak for the bridge but a '59 neck sounds nothing like the Classic '57 in the neck....I found the Classic '57 to be vastly superior for myself.....it was clearer and sweeter sounding without the muddy horrid boomy bottom end the '59 always gives me in the neck. I was pulling some beautiful sweet neck tones with it.

I don' know what the closests SD would be but I'd be hesitant to say the '59......I think it would have to be something with an A2.

Yeah...thats why I said nothing was really THAT close...but the 59 (and I the Seth) have that even wind sound...I bought the 57s cos Duncan really doesnt have a similar pickup...Seths are more honky than the 57s....

I wish they'd put out a even wind A2 or A5 PAF that is slightly overwound 9.5 to 10 K...a 59 with a bit more oomph and a little less bass (and not the C5)....

Re: SD closest to '57 Classic Plus ??

maybe the seth´s are 59´s with a alnico 2 mag,
just like A2pro´s are a jazz with em as well.

Re: SD closest to '57 Classic Plus ??

Because of the uncertainty, I ordered a Gibson '57 Classic Plus for the briidge. Cost less than a Seth. I 'm constantly fighting GAS , so I figure I'll get something (saw two elitist epi LPs at a good price ) and will go for at totally different sound using SDs.
