SD Humbucker pair for a Telecaster

Hi everyone,

I would like to bear your thoughts on what Humbucker pair would you put on a Telecaster.

I would like to be able to coil split for close to telecaster tones. While the Humbucker tones are a bit more modern, mid gain to mid-high gain. Looking for versatility to play from P&W to Rock.

What would you suggest?

welcome to the forum!

youll never get real tele tones from split buckers. with that out of the way, there are plenty of good options. the jb/jazz set was the original buckers in a tele set. splitting buckers like the jb usually works out fairly well since you still have a decent amount of output. i have a few tele style guitars with buckers, no one will confuse the split tones for an actual tele but they work just fine live

Thank you for the info!

Would you recommend a Humbucker with a steeper treble curve?
I was looking at the StagMag on the website.

Wondering if anyone has tried it on a Tele style guitar.

the single coil sound of the stagmag is very good. sounds like an alnico 2 strat pup. the humbucker tones are quite different than a "normal" bucker

Awesome, different is good for this project guitar👍.
Will need to check if they can make it with a metal cover.
This for the bridge.

I've never seen a Stag Mag with a cover...it would have to have 2 rows of holes.

In my experience, make sure that you use standard tele-style bridge (preferably 3-piece saddles) since it's a huge factor in order to get close to tele-sounds. Different bridge designs won't get you the same twang and snarl from your bridge pickup. Stag Mag is the most obvious choice here.

I've always wondered about this sort of thing - Like putting a closed cover over something like the Stagmag or P-RAILS - I want to try it!

Yeah, I think the 3 piece brass saddles give it more twang, and they have a different feel too!

I've had a Pearly Gates in a thineline tele and it sounded great! I particularly like the Pearly gates in Fenders - Strats and Teles. I really want to try a 59neck with Pearly Gates bridge!
