SD Jazz pickup - how much gain does it have?

I have a Korina Explorer with a Custom 5 in the bridge and a Seth Lover in the neck. I find the Seth is too muddy and dark in this guitar, but it's also lacking in gain (or is output the correct term) compared to the Custom 5. It's not a volume difference per se, but notes which sing like crazy in the bridge position just die with the Seth in the neck. Does anyone know how the Jazz might compare to the custom 5 as far as gain levels?

Compared to the Seth, the Jazz will have similar output but more bass and treble. It will be brighter than the Seth but might also be muddier because the Jazz will have more bass.

I use the Seth instead of the Jazz or 59N because it sounds less bassy than either one of them...but the Seth is "darker" and does have more mids.

Maybe that darker tone and more mids is not something you like...in that case try the Jazz...OR:

I'd try the Pearly Gates Neck model next if I were you! :)

I personally don't like the sound of the Jazz neck when used for lead playing under high gain. I have two (one USA duncan, one Duncan Designed). I swapped the Designed one for an Alnico 2 Pro. If you are looking for a neck pickup to solo on in high gain, give the A2Pro a shot. I absolutely love my A2Pro.

But, there are artists who do use the Jazz under high gain. Adam Jones from Tool uses a Jazz in his Les Paul Silverburst, and I know he uses a Diezel VH4 (in addition to other amps).

However, if you're looking for clean tones, go for the Jazz. The jazz clean is so.... clean.

I don't hear the Jazz as being clean as much as I hear it sounding like a 59N with less bass and more highs.
