SD Jazz pickups: Linear Humbucker vs "Weather Report"

I'm considering putting together a Jazz with an alder body/maple neck and am considering either

Jazz Bass Linear Humbucker 4 String

http://goo.gl/Qos3T7

or

Weather Report

I want to retain that Jazz growl, but also want to be sure I have a good amount of low end.

If anyone has used either of these and can provide any impressions I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks.

Re: SD Jazz pickups: Linear Humbucker vs "Weather Report"

I wish the description of the Jazz Bass Linear Humbucker was a little more specific that "the Linear Jazz bass humbucker utilizes two coils that sit next to each other under the cover." Are the coils side-by-side or end-to-end? Either one could be considered a "linear humbucker."

That said, the external appearance of the poles indicates two coils that are end-to-end. I don't have any experience with the Seymour Duncan version, but I have Fender versions of it on my bass that sound fantastic. That would be my choice.

Thanks, BlueTalon. I can't really discern much from the description.

In the near future we will have a demo of the Jazz Bass Linear humbucker. If you decide on the linear and aren't requesting any special modification, you might want to wait for the Apollo Linear Jazz Bass humbuckers, which i expect will be out fairly soon and were at the Summer NAMM show. The Linear bass humbuckers are something special that Kevin Beller (our VP of Engineering and one of many bassists) developed so I'll ask him for more details if you'd like.

Thanks, Scott; some more details might be useful. Unlike some users, I don't do my own mods (my tech installs during a setup). So once I decide on a set of pickups, that's usually it: I'm not in habit of swapping them in and out. This is why I'm pretty careful when selecting new pickups.

I have been waiting for Seymour Duncan to produce an off-the-shelf version of one of these. I look forward to their arrival.
