SD MagMic Troubleshooting help?

My MagMic just died. Looks like the batteries are getting shorted out as they quickly get hot and drain. I switched from the big 9volt to the smaller 23A to no avail. Anyone know of what could be the issue and how to resolve? Thanks

welcome to the forum! that sucks, sorry you are experiencing it. i have a magmic but never had that issue. id call duncan directly with your issue

I have not been playing my Mag Mic loaded acoustic, but when I did I would change the 9V battery every 3 months to be safe. It looks like yours is draining the battery much quicker than that.

I like jeremy's suggestion of calling SD and asking them for a suggestion.

Certainly call Duncan. Something is certainly wrong. They might have a few things to try and they might even be able to fix it. It is a great sounding pickup when it is working, though!

Yeah, I did contact SD Support and they replied within hours and basically told me, very politely, that I am S.O.L. The p.u is maybe 3 years old and I find it disappointing to have such a higher-end unit short out after a relatively short time. Anyway, I may well get another but first, I am considering a (full) Anthem. Cheers!

Update ,,,, Fixed! To simplify, the issue is with the optional N type battery holder which I mounted and soldered. The "feet" of these 2 holders are too long and touched the coils thru the insulator thus shorting out the battery. Fix that by unscrewing the back plate, push in the protruding feet (or cut them off), put electrical tape on the coil which will have scars from those feet, re-install the back and you're back in business.
