Welcome, to the SD Forum, papa.slash!:cool2:
..If mud's your problem, I'd use the JB(bridge) & Jazz(neck).

Re: ... SD = Many Pickups = HELP !!!!! PLZ

For the styles you mentioned definitely get a JB/Jazz, I love mine! The JB is harmonically rich, with singing leads like and sounds incredible in a mahogany body. The Jazz picks up where the JB leaves off with warmer clean ups and fat notes under high gain. If you really play heavier than what you mentioned, like Trash and stuff I would look into the Distortion

Re: ... SD = Many Pickups = HELP !!!!! PLZ

Agreed. A JB/Jazz Combo or a Distortion/jazz combo would suit you.

Re: ... SD = Many Pickups = HELP !!!!! PLZ

Gotta disagree...neither pickup will do the GNR sound very well. Based on your user name and the mention of GNR, I'm guessing that's probably important. The JB would work well in the bridge for the other tones you mentioned, but the Alnico II Pro would be the best choice for a neck pickup.

... uhmmm so we got to a hard point .... cause i doubt ... the Jazz will get me Zaak Wylde tones ... as the JB is a good opition for bridge .... So what if i get a DD/DD ??
Will it be to muddy ??

..I've never seen a complaint about the Distortion sounding muddy in any guitar. ..Then again, I've never seen anyone recommend the Distortion for playing Deep Purple. ..Though, in a muddy guitar you should be fine with a DD/DD set.

..BTW, the Alnico II Pro is the wrong pup to use with a muddy axe. ..No disrespect to rspst14.

Re: ... SD = Many Pickups = HELP !!!!! PLZ

I definitely agree with the neck reccomendation. I love my jazz neck in my Heritage 150. It's articulate and clean sounding throughout. It dirties up nicely and sings high on the neck. I use a A2P bridge and love it get those GNR'esque tones. As far as muddy goes, it might be the pups themselves that are muddy but since it's a studio my guess is that it is a combination of the inherently darker sound from studios and the pups. I think the JB would work well in the bridge for everything but GNR like they said earlier. In which case you need an A2P which might be too dark in your guitar. I have decided that you have to have a guitar that an A2P sounds good in otherwise it is nothing near passable tonally. Maybe a PG since it has a little more high end will get you close (to slash's sound) without being dark or muddy.

But my guess/recommendation is that a (gulp) C5 might be the way to go because It has the pronounced low end and the high end sparkle. It would round out the tone fairly well but not be quite as much high end (high mids as well) as the JB.

I did alot of thinking out loud I hope it all makes sense.

He didn't really say if the guitar itself was muddy, or just the pickups. Based on my experience with import guitars, it was probably the pickups.

My advice would be to play it unplugged, and compare the tone to another guitar. Does it sound brighter or darker? If the guitar is too dark when played acoustically, then an Alnico 2 Pro is going to be too dark. Otherwise, you should be okay. A Pearly Gates in the neck would be a good choice if you want something brighter.

..I agree with using pups with alnico II magnets to get the tones he's after, if he's using just dark pups in a normal or bright sounding guitar.

Don't think you'll go incredibly wrong by picking different pickups, or picking one and not the other... believe me, this will be a huge upgrade for your axe regardless what pickups you choose.

Since you like GnR, an Alnico II pro would be good for the neck.

To find a safe medium in the bridge, either a Custom 5 or a Custom Custom I'd say, but the Custom 5 seems more suited for your styles.

Re: ... SD = Many Pickups = HELP !!!!! PLZ

Custom bridge
APH 2 neck

Re: ... SD = Many Pickups = HELP !!!!! PLZ

You really can't go wrong with a JB in the bridge. Neck you could do alot of things, for a slash GnR type thing AII pro would get you there. But Jazz, 59, and PG are all worthy in the neck.

Re: ... SD = Many Pickups = HELP !!!!! PLZ

Thx guys .. but the alnico II pro ... is too low gain for my styles ... cause i need that chuka - chucka heavy palm-mute sound .... do those ****ing zakk wylde harmonics will como out ... i dont think so .... Wut aboute emg 81/85

Re: ... SD = Many Pickups = HELP !!!!! PLZ

papa slash you dont need a high output pickup in the neck position.
They were saying to use the APH-1 in the neck. i have one and it has amazing harmonics and major sustain. If your looking for chugga chugga palm mutes you would most likely be using the bridge pickup anyway.

I have a custom in bridge and aph-1 in neck and it works well together. The custom with the ceraamic gives me nice chugga chug when i need it and if i want a warmer sound i just mix it with the neck pickup. It does GNR extremly well especially the soloing sound with the APH-1.

I would say go with a JB or one of the custom series in bridge
