SD Pedals on your board?

Just wondering - do you own any SD pedals, either from the new lineup (805, Vapor Trail, etc.) or from the old lineup (Tweak Fuzz, Power Station, etc.) ?

If so, are you using them? How?

I got my hands on one of each of the guitar pedals (no bass comp) recently and it kicked off a whole pedalboard craze on my end. I'll post a thread about it when it's built.. But it got me thinking about the SD pedals. I think the new ones are fantastic. So I was wondering who else was using SD pedals on their board and for what purpose.

I've had a Deja Vu delay on my board for several years now. It's usually used for low volume medium length repeats for lead playing. I've played around with the modulation, putting various effects in the delay loop and the like, but none of that ended up being very useful for me. Analog, digital, tap tempo, and occasionally the looper (for practice or while writing parts) are all great though.

I've still got a Shape Shifter tremolo. It was a pretty advanced and intuitive tap tempo tremolo at that time.

I've had a number of SD pedals, and the ones that stuck with me are the Deja Vu and Shape Shifter.

None currently on my board, but I keep the Deja Vu for use in FX loops.(Bogner/Egnater/Marshall/Matchless)

The only SD pedal I own is the Twin Tube Classic (been discontinued for several years....I think). It is a fabulous sounding dual function pedal with one side OD (from mild to crunch) and the other side Distortion (crunch to substantial distortion).

I rarely use it now do to convenience. It utilizes 16v AC power and it is large, so it's not compatible to a multi-pedal board with the more standard size and 9v DC when you're trying to keep things simple.

For sound however, it is tops!

I am thinking about a Vise Grip, however.......we'll see.

I haven't come across any of the new ones yet. I'd love to try them. I think the new compressor and perhaps the Dirty Deed might be handy to have.

Of the old bunch, I have a Shape Shifter, Deja Vu, Tweak Fuzz, Lava Box, and Power Grid.
I use the Tweak Fuzz occasionally, when I want a trippy Hendrix-type fuzz tone. The Lava Box is another flavor of fuzz.
I had the Deja Vu up for sale, but decided to hang on to it. It's way more full featured than other delays on the market, unless you have the cash for a Time Line. In the last piece I recorded with it, I put a flanger in the send/return loop.

The last time I plugged into the Power Grid, I decided I will not be using that pedal again. Maybe if I ever write a punk song, and it calls for the most ugly, abrasive type of distortion.

Someone snapped some detailed shots of David Gilmour's most recent board from his latest tour, and he had a couple of those featured prominently. I'd completely forgotten about them before that, but now I want one!

So am I, as well as the Vise Grip. How do you have yours arranged?

Something you've probably encountered with the Booster and 805 is how well they pair together. I run the Booster in front of the 805 and it really adds another dimension to the tone without sounding "pedalish" at all.

i use a pup booster at the end of my big board set pretty low as a volume boost

i use the shape shifter and deja vu on my big board for trem and tap tempo delay.

i have a second deja vu on my little board that i use as delay and modulation with zero delay time

i have other duncan pedals but dont really use them

I have the pickup booster-wah-byoc compressor-805-eh phaser-vapor trail-guyatone tuner. Loving the pickup booster in front. I haven't got the Vise Grip yet, but I am still loving my BYOC 5 knob compressor.

I don't have a "board," per se; I just hook up my peels loose. But at any gig that I actually bothered to use pedals for, I used to use as my standard setup a Pickup Booster, a Shape Shifter, a Screaming Bird treble booster, and a tuner. I used other pedals here and there, but those ones were the basic setup that were always there. I bought the Pickup Booster when it was first released, so I've been using it for probably 10 years or more. I now don't need much, because my main amp has a built in clean boost that I prefer. But I'd still use the Pickup Booster if I gigged with one of my other amps instead. I bought the Shape Shifter used for a hundred bucks from a local. It was easily the best effect SD had in the old lineup IMO. I like it better than any other outboard tremolo unit that I've tried. I'd really like to get a Deja Vu too, mainly for live use, for its tap feature. I prefer a Deluxe Memory Man for raw luscious delay tone, though they aren't very user friendly when playing live.

I love the sounds of the SD pedals I've tried, but I've had reliability problems on every one of them. They just aren't very well built. All of the switches and some of the pots had to be upgraded on both of mine. They were not ever really worthy of the full-on SD name IMO. They were more akin to Duncan Designed stuff. They were also always way too expensive. If you're gonna make expensive-ass pedals, you have to back it up with super high build quality, or else they will fail in the marketplace...and they did. They weren't very popular, and near the end of their run, they were being blown out of stores who just wanted to get rid of the damned things.

That said, I haven't tried any of the newer line of SD pedals, so I have nothing to say about them.

I used to use a Twin Tube Classic, but that's been gone for quite a while now. Great pedal, but didn't quite fit in with what I was looking for when I revamped my board.

Currently I have a Doubleback compressor, 805 overdrive and Deja Vu delay. I put the Doubleback on for my 'Gilmour' moments, but with the stuff I'm playing at the moment I never use it. I'm thinking of removing it a rejigging my board again! :)

The 805 is set with the drive quite high so I'm thinking of putting a second one on as a booster. Should work well for boosting either the current 805, my Plexitone prototype or my JTM45 for plentiful drive flavours. The space freed up my taking off the Doubleback should also allow me to add a new Pickup Booster. I'll have it set to balance the volume between my G&L Legacy and PRS McCarty, and also use the Resonance switch for a 'bucker in the bridge' tone with my Legacy for when I need to do some trem work.

The Deja Vu is used for solo delay, ambient sounds and U2-type dotted 8ths depending on the song.
