SD Quarter Pound w/ SD Distortion, having Hum issues

Hi All,

Here's my guitar I finished....

After installing the electronics I noticed a hum when switching to the single coil and also when paired with the humbucker. I went over my wiring and later through internet research found it to be the classic 60 cycle hum...I also read it happens if you have an odd number of coils...but then what about Strats? Do they all have an annoying hum?

The wierd thing is that it only hums when I'm closer than 2 feet from my amp (Marshall DSL50). If I'm 5 feet away or facing a certain direction it goes away. The humbucker alone is whisper quiet. I'm also using a Digitech rp355 and the hum is louder using the pedal board than just the amp.

Any suggestions on how to lessen or eliminate the hum?

Yes, strats with single coils have 60 cycle hum.

You can try shielding the single coil pickup cavity with adheisive copper tape, or shielding paint. (which won't get rid of ALL the hum, but will help with a lot of it)

Or you could switch the QP for a stack or SC-sized humbucker.

or you could take a look at this: http://www.suhrguitars.com/pickups.aspx#bpssc , although it's kinda pricey.
