SD SFX-05... anymore Info

Re: SD SFX-05... anymore Info

I don't have alot of info, but I do have them on order if anyone is interested.

Re: SD SFX-05... anymore Info

i tested a preproduction version and it was sweet!! probably not everyones cut of tea but i loved it. when you step on most drive pedals i think it thins out your tone, not this one. fat fat fat. kinda like a cranked tweed twin about to blow up. cleans up well with volume and picking, very dynamic

Mang, that sounds like a good one, good enough to get rid of my DS-1? Prolly not, but good none-the-less

Re: SD SFX-05... anymore Info

honestly i only had it for a few days and i didnt really mess around with at home.
what i did do was set it up at my blues jam and listen to a bunch of people play thru it with different guitars and i used it on two gigs, one short and one typically long.

i never pinned the gain and it seemed to increase exponentially but its got significantly more than a tube screamer for sure.

as far as what i can compare it too, nothing that ive really heard. it has a thick tone that isnt overly compressed and has some teeth. lots of bottom end even at its "thinnest" setting is plenty fat.

it lets lots of the guitar and amp personality shine thru while adding a little color of its own

Aw, now ya got me wanting to try one...and wondering if it would be a better fit for me than the TTC.:eek13:

Re: SD SFX-05... anymore Info

i think the ttc is more versitle as far as i know. i never did a gig with the ttc but the gigs that i did with the lava really left an impression on me.

typically i run straight into the amp for these things but sometimes i want the choice of a slightly cleaner tone vs a dirtier one. i used to have a klon and it was great but like a fool i went and stayed too long, errr i mean sold it.

the klon was very transparent and a killer pedal that i wish i still had. the lava isnt as transparent but it keeps the girth of amp tone, maybe even fattens it up a couple db but reacts in a similar way. picking dynamics really make a difference, you can shape notes and hear the difference where most pedals i use cover them up to some extent.

Re: SD SFX-05... anymore Info

That Lava Box sounds cool. When Evan describes it as a 'Mosfet' type distortion what does he actually mean? Is it at all related to the Marshall Mosfet in that way of tone?

Re: SD SFX-05... anymore Info

mosfet = metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistor

but i cant tell ya much more than that
