SD site error? Little 59 hotter than Hot Rails?

Hey dudes,

I'm kind of wanting to try some humbucker-sized Tele pickups in my my silverburst, but don't want to route out for a humbucker in case I want to sell it down the road or return to singles at some point.

Looking at the Tele-sized 'buckers on the SD site, it's showing the Little '59 at 17k and the Hot Rails at 15k. I know that DC resistance is not the most exact indicator of output, but that seems completely backwards!

Has anyone tried both of these in the same axe and can comment? I've never tried a full-size '59 in the bridge but I have a feeling it'd be a bit too loose for what I want to do with it. That said, single-sized buckers are usually tighter than their full-size counterparts, so who knows.

Compare The Magnet dot com. Simples!!

I've used both.. not a big fan of the Lil '59, muddy & mushy compared to my Hot Rails.. so maybe it is hotter? Haven't measured the output lately..
Love the Hot Rails.. my recommendation.. however.. it will make your Tele sound more like a Les Paul..

I had a Lil' 59 in the neck of my strat. I think it'd be too squishy for you. Try a Super Distortion T.

Re: SD site error? Little 59 hotter than Hot Rails?

I thought resistance was a pretty useless way to measure how "hot" a pickup was?

heh the Hot Rails is much hotter

just knowing your history and what you've owned and liked in the past, save yourself the trouble and get a Hot Rails.

i took one out of my Strat cuz it was too modern for me...you'll probly dig the things i didn't like about it :smokin:

it wasn't even that i didn't like it...it just wasn't the right voice for my Strat. in my fantasy world where i have a bunch of extra guitars laying around, one of my 4 Telecasters has a Hot Rails in the bridge and an SSL-1 in the neck...Hot Rails in a Telecaster through a 5150 is to this day the most pure, raw punk rock tone i ever experienced live.

Both are ceramic bars.

It is, but I mentioned that in my OP.

Yeah, figured it would be waaay hotter.

I was honestly only considering the 59 - I hate really hot passive pickups, and I hate ceramic magnets aside from the 81, and even that pickup is too much in the top end for me these days, besides in my downtuned guitar.

Honestly not into any Duncan's I've tried, just never the right vibe, always put more emphasis on output than actual tone on the higher output stuff IMO. Just might have to route for humbuckers and call it a day.

I have the 59 in my tele but its a pine body and also a 59 in a warmer pup, sounds good to me. The rails dont have much bass, had one in a strat, was decent, thin some.

Re: SD site error? Little 59 hotter than Hot Rails?

The only experience I have with a Lil 59 is in the neck of my G&L Legacy, and I'm able to get some Classic Rock "Les Paulesque" tones with it. Not too hot, but gives my Legacy a lot meatier voice. I should compare it alongside the 59 I have in my Hofner travel guitar, although one is a single-sized neck pickup, and the other is a full-sized bridge bucker. I sometimes find the Hot Rails a little too "much", which is fine if you're cranking the gain. I've also found that more classic-voiced pickups seem to suit my Tele better...
