SD Strat Pickup Covers Same as Fender?

My Guitar Weeps

New member
I bought a new black SD strat pu cover on the bay to change out the white cover that came with a new staggered Alnico Pro II neck and the magnet holes in the cover don't line up at all.

The new black SD cover fits my fender start pu perfectly....
Are the Alnico Pro II's different magnet spacing than other SD single coils, or did this guy try and pass of a regular Allparts Fender replacement with some good looking SD screen printing?

Re: SD Strat Pickup Covers Same as Fender?

Let me correct myself about the seller....He's a stand up guy and I don't believe there's anything shady about the ebay transaction. There

He says he's willing to send me another, but it's the same as what I've got. I see nothing on the SD site in the pickup description to indicate a special spaced cover for the APS1-N

Re: SD Strat Pickup Covers Same as Fender?

you probably have a trembucker spaced pup and the new cover is trem spaced, or maybe the other way around? I once bought aftermarket black pup covers that weren't Fenders and they didn't fit my pups, so my neck and middle go uncovered (and the LS has it's own that it came with)

Re: SD Strat Pickup Covers Same as Fender?

I've had no problems with Fender covers fitting on Duncans and vice versa.

There's no such thing as an trem spaced single-coil....LOL. Just thought I'd clear that up.

APS-1N means Alnico II Pro Single-coil Neck.

Re: SD Strat Pickup Covers Same as Fender?

I know that APS-1N means Alnico II Pro Single Coil Neck...thanks...I'm talking about the NRWSP part.

Re: SD Strat Pickup Covers Same as Fender?

Ah, gotcha. The NRWSP I *think* means North reverse wound, South polarity. Somebody will chime in and confirm for sure or you can email Customer Service or the Custom Shop and they can tell you too. I know MJ would know for sure.

Re: SD Strat Pickup Covers Same as Fender?

I have the same problem with a pair of APS-1s I want to put into my Strat. Although it is very hard to find information on the net about this, it turns out the pole spacing of single coils can be either 50mm or 52/53mm. This is measured center pole low E to center pole high E. My Alnico2Pros are 50mm spacing and the pickup covers I ordered (not SD) are 52mm spacing, which will fit the standard Fender single coils. A set of SSL-2s (Vintage Flat) I have lying around are the wider spacing type.

I find it strange this is not mentioned on the SD website anywhere (or nowhere I can find it anyways). Most online vendors also do not seem to mention this and just sell 'standard' single coil covers.

If anyone here can sell me two white Seymour Duncan covers with the narrow 50mm spacing (and send them to Belgium), I would be a very happy man!

Re: SD Strat Pickup Covers Same as Fender?

So there is trembucker spacing in single coils afterall. Did not know this!

Re: SD Strat Pickup Covers Same as Fender?

I found an English online parts shop which offers 3-piece pickup cover sets that can be composed out of a custom mix of 50mm and 52mm covers. Seems to me that on some Strats the neck & middle pickups have the smaller spacing, while the bridge pickup is wider spaced. Should be, as it is slanted and the strings move apart towards the bridge. Maybe this is the original Strat configuration that was later abandonned because it was too much of a hassle to produce differently spaced pickups? Strange no pickup maker seems to mention this.
