SD Website has bug - how do I get my Duncan Custom pickup repaired?

Hi,

I bought a Duncan Custom recently and had it shipped to me in Hong Kong

I don't know how but I broke one of the legs off by mistake...my bad....Joseph McDermott from SD customer service pointed me to the repair part of the SD website so I could pay $20 ($40?) to get a PDF to send with my pickup to get the baseplate replaced etc.....

So I entered my address details into the website...my Hong Kong address.....and the website comes back to me telling me there is no shipping to the EU due the WEEE(G?) agreement or something.....Last time I looked Hong Kong was in China, not the EU.

Ok....

So I informed Joseph McDermott AND the customshop@seymourduncan.com on the 27th asking what I needed to do; as I received an email telling me I had an order pending on the website etc.

Result?.....All Quiet on the Western front.....no reply....nada.....still waiting.....

I mean ok...it's only a pickup but I still spent like US$70 on this thing....and I can't get the thing repaired 'cos the website doesn't work properly and noone from customer service has replied to my email?

So ok....I'll have to phone on Monday etc.....but to be frank....seems like pretty bad customer service to me........SD is meant to be this big time pickup manufacturer.....

Can someone please tell me how I get the pickup repaired?

Thank you.

If your Custom is a regular humbucker (SH-5), I'd just order a whole new baseplate for it (ebay - search for Humbucker Nickel Silver 49.2mm baseplate) and install it myself. Much much cheaper, faster and you get to have a peek inside the pickup :)

I had to repair an SH-6 this way, with a nickel silver baseplate it's just as good as the original one.

To break off the elevator screw lug portion of a humbucker baseplate requires the application of considerable force AND in a direction that is inappropriate for normal uses of the item.

Don't know, I just had a brand new TB-6 that had a leg bent considerably inwards (under the baseplate) from the factory.

I'm not sure how I did it...I think the first time I put it back in the box after opening the box, I didn't put it back in properly and forced the lid shut so the foam bent the leg inwards. And then when I noticed the leg was bent, I pulled it out and the leg snapped off because of the weakened metal....

Anyway, I don't mind paying to get it fixed but the system won't let me enter my details......

I'll check out eBay! Thanks!

I had a black winter come bent in the box and when I tried to right it, it broke right off. Duncan appears to be using crap material for the base plates on certain pickups.

Bought a baseplate online. I'm going to fix the pickup myself and then sell the pickup. In the meantime, I've ordered a Suhr SSH+. Not that it makes a difference to SD but I've really not been impressed with SD's customer service....Thank you all for your help!

I've had the same experience with a WLH. The connection and the legs on the baseplate are getting slimmer, it seems.

Good luck with the repair! Shouldn't be too difficult.

When I asked for a baseplate repair, it was a bit too much for me to swallow. I think it was $15-20 with $15 shipping (even though I live in the same state) but don't quote me on that.

I had a new Custom do the exact same thing just a few months ago. One leg arrived a little tweaked, busted the moment I attempted to straighten it...Ugh!

Anyways, QWERTYMAN, don't dismiss SD entirely. They just launched an entirely new website, hired new support staff and are currently in the process of getting everything working smoothly again.

Nonetheless, I'm sure you'll like your Suhr SSH+...it's a very "JB" like pickup with Suhr's own flavor added. Good stuff!

Wow greetings from Hong Kong too! How did you make the custom order? I asked Tomlee and they said it'll take at least 6 months, is it how long you waited?[emoji33]
P.S. 估唔到有香港人上SD forum[emoji23]
