SD wiring diagrams - gray = bare? and CTS pot pinout question

Hi all,

I have a couple of newbie questions I'd appreciate some help with please

1. on the seymour duncan wiring diagrams, I see a gray and a black wire from the humbuckers. Does gray on the diagram = bare silver wire on the pickup?

2. I'm using two CTS push/pull pots to coil split the humbuckers. On the attached picture, any reason I can't use the two pins I've arrowed in red and have it all behave the same?

Gray is bare, yes.
And yes, you can put both on 1 push pull, but obviously, you can't split them independently then.
