Seagull 12 string

Anyone have, or play Seagull 12 strings? I am in love with a Taylor 12 I played the other day, but cant afford it. So, I want to find something cheaper that is still nice that I can think about once I move out some stuff. Ive always heard great things about seagulls. (not to mention, Love the Bad Co song..:cool2:.) is the action low and lite? thanks

Re: Seagull 12 string

I have a 12 string Washburn that is on consignment at a local guitar shop since I rarely play it. It is very nice and I've not played too many 12 strings that weren't very nice.

My brother recently bought a 6 string Seagull that sounds nice but neither of us really like the action though we never really noticed it until recently. My friends have a Martin and I have a Zagar and the action is much better on those than the Seagull. Of course, I'm sure the models do vary.

Re: Seagull 12 string

Seagulls are fairly solid guitars for the money but the factory action isn't that great and gives it a feel of a lot of tension .
Dropping the action will help but tuning it down and capoing it are a good solid solution.
It will also keep the top from bellying which is something they are prone to over time.
But overall dollar for dollar Seagull's are good guitars for the money.

Thanks for the info! Yeah, Ive heard they play and sound good, but I played that Taylor and that action was low and lite. (spoiled me.) Id forgo that to get a more affordable guitar, but I dont want one prone to bellying. ( I assume by that you mean the bridge pulls up?

Re: Seagull 12 string

Bellying is when the top of an acoustic forms a hump instead of staying flat.
Quite often the bridge pulls or cracks but not always, some thinner bridges bulge with the top.

thats what I thought. cant have that

Re: Seagull 12 string

i've had a seagull S6 for about 12 years now and love it. johnjohn, what you said about the tension i'd agree with it. funny though i never really thought about it until i read your post! they are great guitars. i won't even say "great guitars for the money," but simply that they are great guitars. i've messed around with the seagull 12 strings but don't own one. they always play really nice.

Re: Seagull 12 string

Never played a Seagull I didn't like. Just an accident I never bought one. Great price performers. I'd hit a 12 from them in a second.
