Seagull Artist series acoustic, opinions

I have the oppourtunity to purchase a Seagull Artist series cutaway acoustic,
for half the normal retail. It has a cedar top and rosewood back and sides
fitted with a L.R Braggs premp.
Is this a worthy "higher" end guitar, or is money spent better on another
brand, model.
I know its a great guitar and for the price, just makes it better.
Just asking everyones opinions on this and maybe other better choices.

Thanks in advance guys.

I have a Seagull L6 (or some freakin' model #) and it's quite the gtr for the money. IMO

Yeah i know the Artist Rosewood is their top of the line guitar in that series, retails here for $3795.00. I can get it for half that. so question being is this the best sounding guitar for that price, and anyone have any opinions on the preamp?

This may just be a personal bias of my own, but I believe for half that price normally you can get twice the guitar (again, may be a little biased!). Check out some Alvarez Yairis first real quick if time will allow. They're now hand made by Third Generation Luthiers in the Mountain Village of Gifu, Japan, surrounded by bonzai trees and zen rocks and streams of serenity- Amazing guitars. Mine has become the basis for which I compare all other acoustics I've ever even looked at, let alone played, and I'd still choose it over a Taylor or a Martin without a blink or a second thought.

...just my two cents though.

I agree with disguise. I have a Seagull, they good guitars, not great guitars. For the money you are thinking about, look at the taylors and martins before the seagull.

Re: Seagull Artist series acoustic, opinions

In my search for an acoustic a while back, I played a handful of Seagulls & they were very nice....but I didn't care for the wider necks.

I ultimately found a good deal on a Guild.

I guess the moral of the story is: good deals abound if you're patient.

that is a kick as$ deal though, i would say try it and worst that happens is you have to sell it for about what you paid for it!

Re: Seagull Artist series acoustic, opinions

I LOVE the Seagull artist series. Best bang for the buck acoustic for sure! However, acoustics MUST be played in person before you make a decision. Each one will vary slightly, so you need to use your hands and ears to decide which one's best for you. I've played some high end Marins and Taylors that were great and others that were just OK. I've also played some cheap fenders that were great and others that were horrible.
