I take my sm-58 and aim it close to the edge of the 8" speaker and move it away from the amp about 3". that way it sounds darker and has less presence, which is hard for me to dial out. I test it at diff locations before I record the riffs. cheers :)

cool. i gotta try that with my vox ac4tv. i also have an sm58, and the vox has a 10" speaker. i usually shove the mic right up against the grill. i have to start experimenting more. thanks.
