Whats ur guys opinion? Sell stuff to make money to put into other gear? Keep it and save and scrounge money? I really need a bass and amp for the band im in, and i may become a bassist. So, i have all the stuff below to sell if thats the route to go, if not, i need to make some money quick. I am going to keep the martin, thats not a question. But maybe sell pedals? Sell pedals, guitar, amp and pickups? Whats ur guys opinions?

its really the only thing (other than maybe the pups or pedals, though a slim chance) that has the potential to really be worth more than i bought it fore 50 years from now. (the martin) plus i couldnt live without an acuostic, and its also like a part of me. Though, im tempted to sell it, buy a seagull, and have some more money to pour into bass.

+1

I've been there before. If you need to sell, start small, and borrow gear from friends (with their permission, of course!), if you need to. Some people can be pretty generous in situations like this, at least for a while. There's nothing worse than selling the heart and soul of your other rig, only for a project that ends up not panning out at all. Pedals can always be bought back, but the instruments are much harder to replace.

Sell to friends, too. That way, your gear sticks around in your circle.

That's all the rationalle I can offer for you. Like Hellrider77 just said, it's totally up to you.

Re: Sell Gear to Finance other purchases?

Good question, I've found it's a matter of preference, and cash flow. I'm one of those people who's a semi-minimalist. I don't like having stuff unless I use it. I think maybe I buy and sell guitars too much. I actually just sold my Schecter tele to help pay for the costs of a Parker Nitefly that I just bought. For me, it seems to work out that I always have 3 electrics on hand, strat style, paul style, and something that does everything. 2 acoustics, one steel string the other nylon, and two amps, one half stack and one combo. I don't have the room to keep them all around anyway, so if I find something I really like, I will usually sell off whatever I use the least.

Oh man if i had all the gear I've had over the years.. wow. I been there man, your only 18, I was the same way. Sell one amp or guitar to buy another. I did that for 10 years until I started making some money. Now i keep everything. I think its all part of being a starving musician bro.

Re: Sell Gear to Finance other purchases?

well i am pretty much doing the same thing xeromus is doing. i am selling a strat cause i just don't use it. i am keping the one part of it that i really like, the neck pickup and it is going in a telecaster. i will use the money to put a new bridge pickup in that same tele and the rest can go to the next custom guitar that blueline will be starting soon

Re: Sell Gear to Finance other purchases?

yea, but u guys have multiple guitars. I have 1 acoustic, 1 electric, 1 amp. I pretty much use everything. I dont really use the pedals (except for the a/b/y) so thats why im thinking of selling those first. But honestly, how much could i get for used but mint condition pedals? (the 3 below). Not more than 150 if im lucky? add that to the 250 i have, im still gonna be short...

Re: Sell Gear to Finance other purchases?

Yeah its a tough situation to be in, this could be a cool separate thread, but how about a list of gear you had you wish you still had... hers mine. It makes me cry now.

1974 Princeton Reverb
1966 Handmade Yairi Classical signed by Kazuto Yairi (spelling?)
Soldano SP-77 first run proto in rare natural metal finish
Steinberger strat style aqua blue
Early 80's Kramer strat USA w/solid Maple body, 1 piece neck and the orginal Floyd.
Peavey Classic 120/120 tube power amp. I can't believe they stopped making those!!!!!
1994 Collectors edition Ovation
1976 Ovation Balladeer
Loads of other various pedals, rack stuff and effects and acoustics,,,,

It just occured to me that the first thing I sold back in the old days was Acoustics, because they were not used at gigs. :(
