Semi-hollow + EMG ?

Hi guys,
I don't know if anyone tried this combination yet.
I was thinking about putting 2 EMG HZ H4 in my semi-hollow.
I don't need any other propositions.
Just asking if is this any good ?

Re: Semi-hollow + EMG ?

Could work? I've heard of jazz guitarists using actives in their hollows for the clean tone and noiseless was. Tuck Andress uses an active in an old gibson hollow but I don't think it's and EMG.
Will you be using it for clean or distorted tones?

Re: Semi-hollow + EMG ?

EMG HZ is passive, not active.

I would be using it for blues/hard rock.
Few distorted tracks and few clean toned tracks.

Re: Semi-hollow + EMG ?

EMG HZ passive pickups tend to lack the detail and clarity associated with their active models. In my opinion, EMG HZ pickups might be okay with extremely high gain distortion. I honestly could not recommend them for clean guitar sounds.

If you can obtain the pickups inexpensively, pre-owned, give them a try. Considering the fiddly nature of rewiring 335/345/355 family semi-solid electric guitars, it is probably wisest to do the job as infrequently as possible.

Nevertheless, I am going to run a few past yez.

Combinations that I have known to work well in "import" semi-solid guitars for blues 'n' hard rock.
Tonerider Alnico 2 Classic N, Rocksong B
Tonerider Alnico 4 N, Alnico 2 Classic B
SD P-Rails N and B (preferrably, via Triple Shot mounting surrounds)

Re: Semi-hollow + EMG ?

Fifty five years of Electric Spanish Thinline history says that vintage output humbuckers deliver the goods. For harder styles, either a slightly hotter bridge/Treble position pickup or a pedal would provide sufficient boost.

If you have a pair of these pickups hanging around the house, it can't hurt to try them.
