Some will consider this a mod because it offers a different sound. Others a mistake wiring up a guitar. Either way it's such a unique tone to try for those who have a push pull laying around and with the right pickup it can be a very useful tone. I remember putting in a set of pickups and the manufactures color changed but regardless here we are.
I'd describe the sound as turning a humbucker into pretty much a 2 wire telecaster bridge pickup. Series out of phase I found works best on higher output humbuckers. How you spot if your mystery brand of pickups is series out of phase if the tone is undesirable is with inductance. This isn't something every multimeter has unfortunately so plugging in a guitar. Say you put a bridge pickup in and it gets thin , twangy and hums like a single coil you've got series out of phase.
To make things interesting I added a coilsplit to this wiring too. Series out of phase can be coilsplitted so take what you want from this wiring. I hope I used the right shade of black :amish:
