Series Wiring

Hi everybody. New member.

I would like to wire my bass pickups (active, one hot w/braided ground wire) in series. Can anybody point me to a schematic on the simplest way to do this?

I do not currently use a tone pot; just a toggle switch and master volume. (I like a hot, bright signal). Do I need 2 separate volume controls, and/or a tone pot, to wire in series? How can it be done with the bare minimum of circuitry?

Thanks for any help.

Re: Series Wiring

welcome to the forum!!

how many pups are in this bass? im not sure if putting active pups in series works well or not but...

if you want to be able to switch from parallel to series use this:

if you want it hard wired in series, attach the ground wire of pup 1 to ground, attach the hot wire of pup 1 to the ground wire of pup 2, attach the hot wire of pup 2 to the volume

Re: Series Wiring

I'm about 99% sure that active pups can't be put in series. I think Scott Miller or Evan weighed in on this once, but I can't remember the exact thread.

Re: Series Wiring

Thanks, chaps. I'll try it with my passive 2-pickup bass, once I work up the nerve.

What is the downside? What do you give up in exchange for the boosted signal?
