I have an lp standard with 2 seth lovers. I like the sound of the neck pickup but the bridge is less loud and seems cold. I'm not really too confident in the pots and I was wondering whether I had a electrical problem (short or need new pots), or just don't like the sond of the bridge as much. Any input would be great, thanks.

Re: seth lover bridge pickup

I think you someone to check your electrics first. Is this was a shop job - bring it back. If not, get someone who can work with a meter. If that doesnt get best results, do a serious adjusting job - everytimei tried hardly i found a good way to live at least . The last alternative would be to change in a new pup.

Re: seth lover bridge pickup

It doesn't necessarily sound like there is a problem. The Seth bridge and neck are very close in output. You need to balance the outputs a bit with height adjustments. Raise the Bridge up so its about 3/32 away from the strings when fretting at the 2nd and adjust to taste from there.

Re: seth lover bridge pickup

The natural move, if you decide you don't like the Seth B, is to swap it for a nickel Custom Custom. The CC/Seth combo is one that almost everyone likes the sound of, especially in a LP.

But you mean 22nd, not 2nd, right?

Yeah, that would be a typo... 22nd is correct

+2 I have an Epi LP here that has a "59" neck, Seth Bridge combination. I had to set the Seth a fair amount closer to the strings to balance out the output. I love that pickup!!

Re: seth lover bridge pickup

Thanks to all, I will tweak my guitar and check the insides. This may end up being fun...

Re: seth lover bridge pickup

Hmmm... different strokes for diff. folks... I had a Seth Lover Bridge model in the bridge of my SG which sounded too harsh to me. Replaced my pups with a pair of '59's; and I'm now loving the '59B with a .047 cap. The '59N is a bit boomy, although OOP is excellent. I will try replacing it with the Seth B in the neck spot, hopefully for more articulation and less mud.

Slap an Alnico 8 in that Seth Lover bridge -- your troubles will be over.

 Wouldn't that be exceptionally bright?

The Seth is a *great* pickup in the right guitar. It should sound great in an LP Standard.

Good call

Not at all -- don't confuse Alnico 8 with ceramic. The only thing they have in common tone-wise is tight bass.

Everything else is sheer vintage-sweet, especially the top. Think of Alnico 2 or 3 on steroids...

Re: seth lover bridge pickup

I also appeal to Olinmusic for testimony who came over last night for an Alnico 8 install for his '91 PRS 24. Yet another convert...
