Seth Lover vs `59 Model--bridge position

Hi--can anyone tell me the characteristics of these 2 pickups in the 'bridge position' and how they compare to each other? I`m thinking about trying one in my SG but not sure which pick-up would be best. I know the `59 Model has A-5 magnet--i`m not looking for a pickup that`s too bright. Just would like a 'middle of the road' PAF type pick-up. Thanks for reading this and any help you can offer.

Re: Seth Lover vs `59 Model--bridge position

Seths have a more honky, middy tone than 59s, with a looser, softer sound and feel.

59b's are terrific for SGs; I have one in mine. They compliment a SG's tonal nature very well. I'm sure a Seth would work well also, if you want a lot of mids and a looser feel.

seths are also un-potted, and supposedly have a more open/airy tone attributed by this factor.

Thanks guys! Much appreciated!

Anyone else?

Please!

Re: Seth Lover vs `59 Model--bridge position

I've tried burstbuckers 1 & 2, unpotted 59 (from specialty guitars), seths and antiquities in one of my SGs. Nothing touches those unpotted 59s. Just as honky as the seths/ants with more stereotypical SG bite and attack. Do have to lower the bass side of the neck pu though, but it does not get muddy as it might in many LPs. I'm using 500K all around but I do roll the bridge tone down quite a bit.

Re: Seth Lover vs `59 Model--bridge position

My seth are both with Alnico 5 and without cover. Should be quite similar to unpotted '59s?

Re: Seth Lover vs `59 Model--bridge position

No, they're a different wind. It's been a while, but I remember an A5 Seth not sounding like a 59.

Re: Seth Lover vs `59 Model--bridge position

The '59B is on the bright side with 500K's. I use two 250K pots on mine (volume & tone) to shave a little off the top, and make the mids seem stronger. warms them up nicely. You could also put a A2 or A4 in a '59. They're about half the price of a Seth, aren't they? I'd get a '59B and dial in the EQ I want with inexpensive pots or magnets. I don't see the benefit for the price difference in a Seth. It may not sound the way you want, and then what? You may be changing magnets or pots, or selling it used for half price.

Thanks--the `59 Model is pretty popular it seems. I already have one--just was a little hesitant about trying it as my guitar and amp is already on the 'bright' side. But i`m going to have a friend put it in my SG anyway just to try it and i should be able to 'dial in' a nice tone by 'toning down' the amp. And if not then I`ll try some 250K pots or maybe an A-2 magnet. Thanks 'Blueman 335' for your help. BTW: nice avatar!

Re: Seth Lover vs `59 Model--bridge position

well a SETH with A5 cd turn to be too warm, mhh?
a SH1B unpotted sounds great- I have one 59BJ (potted) in the Duesenberg Starplayer with a SETHNeck cover off . I tend to find the seth a neck a little to wooly in clean.
It cd be that I return to the Duesy-P90 for the neck.
...and try the Seth for my LP Standard a Neck PU (now the PGN).
BlueMarin on the other hand has such a nice demo for a SETH Set in a 335!
this let me buy a SethN for test...// Antiq/custom Neck was even clearer to my memory...
Anybody running L P with SethN in neck pos, I guess sure!?
