Seth Lover vs 59

Alright, so I'm putting together a Warmoth LP. Should have all the parts by the end of the week (just waiting on tuning machines). I already have a Dimarzio Air Norton I know I'm going to use. I've tried it in the neck and bridge position of guitars and love it in both. It's pretty clean and clear just about everywhere it goes. Great pickup!

So my dilemma is this: Put the Air Norton in the bridge paired with a 59 in the neck? Or put the Air Norton in the neck and put a Seth Lover in the bridge? I'm a fan of clearer neck pickups. Too much bass really puts me off. Which is why I'm worried, I've never used either of these pickups before. And I have a 59 neck model with me right now, but this Friday (payday) I could return that for the Seth Lover bridge version.

I play all styles and would be looking for a versatile setup. I play grunge, hard rock, and am looking to get into blues some. Right now I'm playing through a bedroom setup. An Orange Micro Terror and it's 8" cabinet (just got it today, love it!)

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Dont put the 59 in the neck if you don't like boominess. it is the boomiest pickup by far in the neck. boom boom da boom

I'm thinkin Norton in the bridge, Seth in the neck. First post, yay.

I'd go this route too. A Seth in the neck is a beautiful thing. While I have not used the Norton before, I've heard good things about them and have great success with other Dimarzio pups. Now, take into account this is coming from an old fart steeped in the blues and I usually play clean. When dirt is needed, I use an old black box Marshall BluesBreaker...which is a very low gain pedal. So, my tastes and needs may not be close to yours. Still, a Seth in the neck works for a wide variety of music and tones. Great, great sounding and feeling pickup.

Exactly, if you want nice and clear without boominess the seth lover is like the definition of that... Stick the norton in the bridge and I think it'll work pretty nicely. :fing2:

Seth neck and Norton bridge is sweet for sure and my pick over the 59 in the neck. If you want something a little edgier perhaps a SD Custom in the bridge position over the Norton.

Usually you get the stock '59n to mud when it's too close to the strigs, but by just putting an A4 in it, most of the boominess goes away or an A3 in extreme boominess cases and/or Big Jazz Boxes.

HTH,

Sounds like everyone has you on the right track here. I just want to add that you might have a phase issue when mixing Duncans and Dimarzios. You may have to swap the hot and ground on one of the pickups. That is, unless you like that out of phase sound with both pickups on, then leave it.
