Seth Lover with A5=Joe Perry?

Re: Seth Lover with A5=Joe Perry?

The problem is that nobody is right, because he's got over 600 guitars, loaded with just about everything.

I'd venture to say that most of his Gibsons feature Burstbucker 1/2 ,Gibsons specially wound for him, and a handfull of PAF spec boutiques. Magnets probably vary by the guitar.

But,back in the old days he din't had so much guitars or burstbuckers right? I talked to Captcoolaid bout a custom order Perry pup but we ended up agreeing that an A5 paf is the perfect thing unfortunately nobody have done it yet!
And we also have to remember THAT is impossible that he would play EVERY GUITAR OF HIS COLLECTION IN EVERY SONG,songs like walk this way,eat the rich and shakin my cage are good example of the "perry tone"

First, he played a lot of strats back then. Second, SD has made an A5 PAF for close to 40 years. - The 59

+1 strats and teles, walk this way sounds like single coils to me with a bit of snap. Correct me if I am wrong but in addition to the 59 can't you get Seth Lovers & Antiquities with an A5 as well?

Yes but its a special order of one kind or another

Re: Seth Lover with A5=Joe Perry?

It may do good for overall Joe Perry tone, but I've read a bunch of articles and threads saying even back in the '70s he tried every pickup under the sun.

Re: Seth Lover with A5=Joe Perry?

I have a Joe Perry Les Paul, yes they USED to have Burstbuckers. I ditched those pups as soon as I had the guitar, they are LAME!!! Been thru 6 sets. Currently waxpotting Skaterbrane Waterbrane bridge (microphonic) and am going to attempt to half waxpot (just one wind) the neck to keep her semi-microphonic.
Seth Lovers with UOA5 bridge, roughcast A2 neck would seem k!ck@ss to me.
If you have Gibsn buckers, 57s, Burstbuckers, etc. made from the 70s to date; DITCH EM!!!!

Not so. To each his own, but those are good pups.

You can "DITCH EM" to me. Those are very good pups if you know how to use them, if you use them in the right applications/guitars, if you use the correct magnets with them, and if you know how to play guitar.

Re: Seth Lover with A5=Joe Perry?

Old School Aerosmith is Lawrence pickups all the way L-220's in Strats and L-90's in Les Pauls and BC Richs...both Joe and Brad.

Trust me...if oyu try an old school L-90 that sound is in there and FWIW, JOe and Brad both used bridge models (XL's) in the neck and bridges!

I didn't think the XLs came out until the late 80s/early 90s but I might be wrong.

Agreed. BBs are great; Shaws are great, T-Tops are great (sometimes), 57s are great, and even the Lawrence boarded Gibsons from the late 80s are ok. That dude's just ignorant.

Re: Seth Lover with A5=Joe Perry?

I Love Joe Perry...It's funny to see his setup on stage...A combination of many amps behind him...He also likes to play many guitars throughout the night.

Re: Seth Lover with A5=Joe Perry?

I used to use L500's way back when and they were right there, I had the L and the R. Great pickups.

59's do a great job for the general area though. Joe's amps back then were generally all set to "7", every setting, then tweaked to taste from there.

IIRC Joe loves the JB as well.

Yeah, the BB 1 & 2 set is one of my favorite pickup sets. I love how they can get downright twangy! Not coming out of any of my Historic LPs!
