I haven't tried it, but my guess is that it wouldn't be too awful different from a '59. I doubt it would be too bright.

I have a set of 50th anniversary Seth's with Alnico 5 mags (See Avatar). This was done in conjunction with Musician's Friend.

They sound like a slightly beefed up 59 set, with perhaps a little more warmth. I know they were wound a little hotter from the start, so this might not apply to a regular Seth.
I think a regular Seth with an A5 mag would be great.

I tried an A5 in a Seth neck -- it was a little boomy for my tastes so I settled on A4. Doesn't sound like a 59 though, the mids are still plenty smooth and full.

I've never tried a Seth bridge but I bet an Alnico 5 would be great in it.

What do you mean? It doesn't sound like the '59 with the a5 or the a4?

Doesn't sound like the 59 no matter what magnet you put in it. But I liked the A4 better because it was smoother.

Interesting. I think my perfect bridge humbucker would be a humbucker with the highs and bass of a '59 and the mids of a Seth. I just may have to try a swap.

I like the A5 Seth Neck in my SG better than the stock A2 Seth. If found the stock A2 Seth to be too muffled in that guitar.

Gripweed,I put an A2 magnet in a '59 TB once and it sounded great! Like the descrip you gave.
