Settle a bet...help me be right

a buddy and me got into a bit of an argument over the type of Tube screamer that SRV used. i said that he used 2 Ts-808's at one point and then he used 2 TS9's near the end.
He says that SRV only used Ts10's... which i seriously doubt.

so who is right (me) or wrong (him)?
i hope i put this in the right forum. it's a pedal question so...

I think you guys should find more important things to fight about :lmao:
FWIW, you're right.

i know hey? we should be discussing more important things like how to solve world hunger... or cure cancer or something more important

Re: Settle a bet...help me be right

the whole issue was that he asked for advice on getting the SRV tone... after i stopped laughing at him, i explained that it was not one thing that made SRV's tone SRV's tone. he could get close, but never would he sound like Stevie, because only stevie can sound like Stevie. basically tone is in the fingers not the equipment. hell, SRV could have made a cheap piece of wood sound amazing. anyways, he's trying to decide between buying a Bluesbreaker pedal and a TS-10. I told him that if it was me and i wanted to get close, i would buy a Stock Maxon OD-9 or a modded Ibanez Ts-9 (or find a 1980's Tubescreamer). then he proceeded to tell me that SRV never used a TS-9, but used TS-10. then i bet him $20, that i was right...
He's only been playing a few years, he's decent, but needs more practice still. and he's at that stage where he's upgrading his gear, so any sales guy who sees him coming in sees dollar signs, and will tell him anything to get a sale... you know how it is we've all been there at one point...

FWIW, the popularity of the ts-808 is almost solely attributable to stevie ray (from what I've gathered over the years). It was my understanding that he used the ts-808, and it wouldn't surprise me that he used the ts-9 later on, but I highly doubt he used a ts-10.
