Seymour Duncan aficionados!! Or historians. Never seen this before

Had to start a new account, but I haven't posted in here in 10 years, so it's not like I was a regular. Anyway, I've been thru all kinds of pickups from all eras.. Bought a used Duncan Custom Custom(one of my faves) that was from the early 90's, supposedly.

First, was this around then? I know it's just a mag swap, but just try and determine if what i got is even possible. It did have an old sticker on the bottom that has since fallen off and can't find it. I think it said DCC, but I could be mistaken..

Anyway, it's also got a thin circuit board between the bobbins and magnet/metal spacers. It is indeed soldered to as well. I have never seen this before!! Have I been duped??!? Or is this legit.

Idk. Does it have 3 or 5 wires instead of the usual 2 or 4? Maybe it's some prototype Blackout that hasn't been dunked in epoxy?

Nah, definitely not a preamp. It's just used to solder the 4 conductor leads to, before exiting via the cable. I mean, definitely not necessary, but I've seen pickups do similar things. Like say, the EVH Wolfgang pickups or Anderson pickups etc..

Never seen it with a Duncan tho. Or with this circuit board.

That doesnt look like a Duncan to me. I think somebody dropped some mystery bobbins on a Duncan baseplate. Check the resistance.

Yeah, it specs out proper. 14.2 k. The copper wrapped bobbins, I'm fairly certain is the same on my other CC. The holes on top of the bobbins match, etc. It sounds pretty similar to my others, but a little different, but I have an old JB, (that I know is legit) that damn well sounds different, and better to my ears, than any other jb I've had. So pickups aren't all the same.. but I am thinking it may have been tinkered with for some reason.. in the end, it's how it sounds that matters, but I am curious if this was ever done by Duncan

That doesn't look right to me and the red and green wires look much thicker than on some of my old Duncan's. If the sticker said DCC, that's a Duncan Custom, not a Custom Custom. There is a person with the initial C, Catalina Padilla, but she is only credited with winding rails pickups.

If you can snap some more pics of the baseplate and the wire bundle that comes out, maybe we can tell better. Does it have the typical red, whiten green, bare and black hookup wires? I've just never seen a circuit board underneath the bobbins of any SD humbucker. I have humbuckers from the early 80's through current production.

Did you buy a Trembucker p'up without legs? Being a proprietary design, good luck on finding a baseplate for it.

Go for it. I recognized it after I looked at the pic. But my phone battery was on its last legs and camera wouldn't work anymore.. So up it went.. Its a customer of mine.. lol

I did snap more pics I'll upload, but with further examination, I am starting believe this is not a Duncan. Well, besides the baseplate.. Weird someone would go thru this much effort.. Fwiw, everything is fairly well done. I'd be surprised if it was just some guy, sitting in his room deciding to make a pickup and sell it as a Duncan.. This had some engineering and machining involved, as far as that circuit board goes

Yeah, post more pics when you can. Doesn't look like something Duncan would do, but still interesting.
