Seymour Duncan Akira Takasaki signature set?

This got mentioned in passing in SD's 2016 NAMM blog post, but I just learned about this now:

What?!?! SO COOL.

All I know is that it's Japan-only...and that you can add it to your eBay cart for $1024.07 from some Japanese seller.

Does anyone know anything else about this set?

The artist page for Takasaki says he uses the 59N, Custom 5, and 59/Custom Hybrid, so maybe his set is along those lines?

The Black Winters and Whole Lottas started out as limited regional releases. Are there any other SD limited regional sets out there?

Re: Seymour Duncan Akira Takasaki signature set?

It was a custom set created for use in 2 of his guitars from Esp Japan, but will probably be used on and off with his other guitars, switch between his custom set and 59s. Check out Killer guitars Japan, I think roughly half of those were designed for him, or with his input, but he still gets artist series with Esp Japan.

Ps, I've been wanting a thunder in the east set, not common to see Japanese artist with artist series pickups.

I'd sooner get a set of Zephyrs. I mean, that's some serious cash for a set of humbuckers. Do they play themselves?

True, if I had that money I would have bought the thunder in th east/Takashi set, already, but I don't, I'd be cheaper to just import the guitar, put some Fluence in it and the Takashi set in another guitar, or much easier, just play the original guitar.

I have an image of what I would get for a grand. That's not it. Admittedly, I'm notoriously frugal.

Yeah, I would need at least 5 grand to consider these pickups, unless I can get them significantly cheaper. For 1 grand I would rather get an Mk11 Warlock or a down payment of a custom guitar for 1 of 3 different shops I'm considering.

For a grand, I would get a neck through Jackson with a real FR.
And either Duncan's or EMG'S.

OMG - Akira TAkasaki set? TITE set - Seriously?

Speaking as someone who alive and rocking on the release of that album WTH is wrong with you people?!?!?!?!?!?!

There was nothing impressive about his tone period. It was standard B-grade metal crap tone. In fact, there was nothing impressive about his playing either. It was a combination of all the standard US Shred playing techniques ala VH, Rhoads, DeMartini, Lynch that one would have considered required at the time. He was a good technical player, but the only thing about that band worth noting is that they were as contrived as an all girl metal band. Just all Japanese.

$1000?

Good god man, just throw a JB or a distortion in the bridge and there you go (it really wouldn't matter).

Re: Seymour Duncan Akira Takasaki signature set?

You guys are acting like Duncan set the price at $1000. :chairfall Its just a Japanese reseller that happens to have a set that ship export and put a high price on them.

The two options I see are:
-get a set similar to the artist listing of C5/59 or C59Hybrid/59
-call the Custom Shop and ask for a set "substantially similar" to the artist set

Sounds like the more reasonable solution.

Re: Seymour Duncan Akira Takasaki signature set?

I don't know much about this set, but I was never impressed with Loudness. Less impressed with their tone. But then, I don't like most 80s "B-level" shred tones.
