Seymour Duncan LW-HMET Livewire Metal discontinued?

Anynone knows exactly what the deal is with SD not selling this pups nowadays?
Are they never going to produce it again? Or is it just an inventory/stock thing?

All the stores had them as 'discontinued' or 'obsolete' for about two months, and now they're only offering them in WHITE (bwaajj no thanks )

I'm pretty sure it is (was?) a pretty good selling pickup.
The only one in the world suited/advertised for 18v from the factory! (I think)
Is SD trying to get rid of some inventory on the blackouts?
Is this a result of the 'crisis'?

Couple of months ago I purchased a BC Rich gtr and now I won't be able to mod it.. just my luck.. I'm the kind of musician that will get the money gathered for a gtr/pup/amp/cable/MFX etc etc only to get the typical ''sorry, we just sold the last unit yesterday''
I'm sure some of you can relate

..

EMGs only require you to use two battery clips for 18 volt operation. Since you have to solder the battery clip in place regardless, they're no less suited.

I'm gonna guess they weren't that big of a seller, and I think they were trying to replace them with the Blackouts.

Oh, and welcome to the forum :)

I have another guitar with two EMG 81s modded with 18v, actually. I can even add another battery for 27v operation.
(Although EMG says the difference from 18 to 27v is not audible)

I am pretty sure the LW-HMETs were not undersold..

thanks 4the welcoming!

The Blackouts Metal is the replacement. If you liked the tone of the LW-HMET, the Blackouts Metal will do the trick. We specifically worked on that one to make certain the tone was the same.

Are you talking about the Blackouts Metal AHB-2?
I can't find those on mf -or anywhere else-
Are they not released yet?
The Seymour Duncan LW-HMET were advertised as '18 volt pups for extreme genres of metal'. The AHB-2s -as I'm reading- are 9v 'rock and roll' pickups. I need them for black metal mostly, so for me -and lots of other people- ''rock n roll'' just won't do the trick.

I appreciate the fact that these new ones have a dual pin configuration; after all, with an EXTREMELY-high output the guitar becomes somewhat hindered in terms of tone.
(But, in any case, if you want to 'switch' to rock or some blues/jazz riffs, there's always -well, almost always- the option of a neck pup). IMO a very high output bridge pup should be offered both with a matching high output neck pup (for those who want nothing but mayhem) and also a different setup with a cleaner neck pup for those seeking broader range of tone.

A side question -
Would the Triple Shot be functional for this kind of pups?
The TS was announced january at NAMM but, again, we can't buy them anywhere yet

ahb-2's are perfect for blackmetal,i have the normal blackouts and those blow away emgs...
the ahb-2 has a jumper clip thing.when engaged the blackout metal will distort your cleans..That is very high output...and when the jumper is off then it just sounds like a good metal pickup...

I´m fairly certain the TS rings require a 4 conductor pickup to use all of the functions. As it stands (someone please correct me if I´m wrong) there are currently no active humbuckers on the market that offer the versatility of 4 conductor wiring. So essentially, No.

As to why the TS aren´t available yet (or rather were but suddenly aren´t anymore), there is a thread on that topic here in the Pickup lounge, the Search function is your friend ;)

Re: Seymour Duncan LW-HMET Livewire Metal discontinued?

so
anyone knows when will the Blackouts Metal AHB-2 be available?

this is really weird I wasn't able to get the LW-HMETs for several months, and now I can't get the blackouts2 either.... :S

Re: Seymour Duncan LW-HMET Livewire Metal discontinued?

The blackouts have been available for a while now, incl the metal...

MF offers the Metal in 3 colors, though they only have the ones w/ metal covers on the site...

Bridge: http://accessories.musiciansfriend....ckout-Metal-Cover-Humbucker-Bridge?sku=360817

Neck: http://accessories.musiciansfriend....lackout-Metal-Cover-Humbucker-Neck?sku=360816

That said it would make MUCH more sense to call up or email a dealer like www.wymoreguitars.com (our forum favorite) because they generally have both more current information and a larger selection ;)

Calling or emailing is the important part here, both for the best deal and for things that are almost certainly available just not listed on the site ;)

Re: Seymour Duncan LW-HMET Livewire Metal discontinued?

I bought my blackouts metal from wymore, I bought his last one so not sure if he ordered another one or not since I bought it.

AHB-2's are out there in full force. If you can't find them it means they're selling out, or distributors aren't ordering enough, etc. If you place an order for one it should be easily filled.

Re: Seymour Duncan LW-HMET Livewire Metal discontinued?

I am not sure if you are still looking, but I am selling the LW-HMETS Metal Live Wire Humbucker set right now on ebay. They are new, in box- never used. I bought them for my exs birthday and we ended up spilting up before I gave them to him. After realizing
we weren't getting back together, I finally decided to just sell them. My seller name is jenlbeck. They are listed right now.

Re: Seymour Duncan LW-HMET Livewire Metal discontinued?

I heard that Blackouts sound like gritty sandpaper rubbing together with 18v's [so modding it is pointless] and Black Metal is just Rock n Roll at about 13 [not 11]. For instance, I imagine that if you took Ace Frehley's beloved Fender fed into a Marshall set up [or was it the Marshall feeding the Fender?], and turned the volume full blast, and did some general EQing [such as giving it a touch more bass and a touch less mids], you'll probably get the best sounding Black Metal tone ever. Sad this is, neither of those words are ever in the same sentence when referencing black metal.

ok you're probably talking about 'raw', garage extreme metal..
in that case, anything blasted up to the max goes well.

But I was referring more to symphonic metal (ie Dimmu Borgir, Hypocrisy).
Sweet tone but very difficult to achieve :headbang:

btw nowadays I ALREADY have a blackouts 2 bridge modded w 27v.
That thing will cut through ANYTHING and the saturation generated by the pup itself is sweeeet!
But just like a reviewer said somewhere, the pup needs entirely different dist setups, simply because the sat of the pup will not 'stack up' or merge well with distortion effects set for less potent/cleaner pups.

Re: Seymour Duncan LW-HMET Livewire Metal discontinued?

Sad this is, neither of those words are ever in the same sentence when referencing black metal.

Euronymous had GREAT black metal tone, as did Immortal on Pure Holocaust and Samael on Ceremony of Opposites, Deathspell Omega on Si Monvmentvm, etc.

The black metal sound might run against the grain of what guitar players consider great tone but when it's done properly, it's a thing of beauty.
