Seymour Duncan pedals - your experience

I've only owned two - Twin Tube Classic and the Tweak Fuzz. The TTClassic was great for my needs at the time, very amplike, but I sold it as my gear needs changed. I'd buy another in a heartbeat, though, if I needed something like that.

Tweak Fuzz - lets just say it was a disappointment and leave it at that:ok:

Anyone else?

Re: Seymour Duncan pedals - your experience

I have the Pickup Booster, which I got new when they first came out, and a Shape Shifter, which I got used maybe a month or two ago.

My experience can be summed us thusly: Sonically speaking, the designs are decent, and you get some good sounds from them. But the sounds are basically run of the mill – nothing Earth shatteringly great – and they leave a lot to be desired in terms of build quality. Basically, the enclosures are OK, but the electronic components are crummy. Plus they are overpriced.

I'd like to try upgrading the pots, switches, and jacks in mine, but I have to decide if it is worth the risk of me screwing them up. It is pretty miniaturized in there. I'm afraid I won't be able to pull it off.

I will likely not buy a new one, but I would certainly seek out another on the used market. That will probably be the Deja Vu, and perhaps a Tweak Fuzz.

I have used a few of them. The ones I have played have been pretty lackluster... I know a lot of guys like them but I just haven't gotten on with them myself. They seem priced pretty high as well.

I want to try the shape shifter sometime though.

I have a twin tube classic and I like it, but I never would have bought it for its original price. I figured it would be worth it to try one out for the price Musicians Friend was selling them for when they blew them out.

Re: Seymour Duncan pedals - your experience

deja vu delay. does the job beautifully. Sounds great and is easy to dial in sounds on the fly at gigs.

Re: Seymour Duncan pedals - your experience

I've got a Deja Vu delay. No way in hell I'd have paid $250 for it - Guitar Center was blowing them out for $80. At that price it's a pretty good deal, but I'm still going to be upgrading it as soon as the Way Huge Supa Puss comes out.

The Shape Shifter looks really cool, but I've already got a Tap a Whirl, so I've no need to try it at all.

I'm currently using the Deja Vu and the Doubleback, both of which I love. I had a Twin Tube Classic on my board for a while that got replaced by a Blackstar HT Dual.

Also got a Twin Tube Blue which I just have as a standalone unit to give my JTM45 a shove if I don't want to take the pedalboard with me.

Re: Seymour Duncan pedals - your experience

I have the Twin Tube Classic which I really like (I, like Jolly, got it when MF was blowing them out for a song). I also have a Lava Box which I love.

Re: Seymour Duncan pedals - your experience

My Tweak Fuzz: Sounds kinda ho-hum compared to my Swollen Pickle. Doesn't sustain like a Swollen Pickle. But that makes it cool for grinding rhythm guitar. It's built tough.

Lava Box: Also built tough. I was disappointed because the ad hype says it responds like an amp. It does clean up with light touch, but the character of the distortion is like a fuzz. It's better for playing Cream and Hendrix licks than for stuff where you'd want a more amp-like distortion.

Power Grid: Knobs feel cheap compared to the nice chicken head knobs on the Tweak Fuzz and Lava Box. The EQ is quite versatile and it's a good pedal for dialing in distortion colors you just can't get from an amp.

Deja Vu: Very cool pedal. I'm happy with it. Versatile features, and it plays back what you play into it, with the option of dialing in a more muffled tone to the repeats.

Did you mod it?

Re: Seymour Duncan pedals - your experience

The DoubleBack Comp finally put an end to my compression pedal search. After trying various comp pedals the DoubleBack won thanks in large part to the DoubleBack feature. I ride the blend knob to add or remove the compressed tone.

Re: Seymour Duncan pedals - your experience

pickup booster - indispensible - perfect for the need i had - no color to the tone, just a level bump

twintube classic - very happy with it - mostly use for dirty / crunchy rhythm - very sensitive to guitar volume knob adjustments ... gain on 'red' channel is very nice, but i used a zendrive more frequently for leads ... shared EQ is kinda a drag, but not really a problem for me because i set it to give my the rhythm EQ i wanted ... dedicated wall wart is a drag too, but needed to get the tone so i live with it

deja vu delay - like it alot ... even moreso after going back to the mothership for the fix ... it is way more delay pedal than i need, but the analog / digital blend control is really sweet for my needs

Re: Seymour Duncan pedals - your experience

I love the Shape Shifter, it works great for what I do. The only problem I have with it is the need to have it's own S/D adapter, doesn't go well with a pedal board set up.

Re: Seymour Duncan pedals - your experience

The Deja Vu is still one of the best delay pedals I have used musically. If you play with it for awhile it is amazing what you can make it do. It deserves a lot more attention.

The pickup booster is just what it is and it does the job extremely well.

I owned and lightly used the twin tube blue..... I never gave it a good audition. It did not help me in my pursuit of the tone I was looking for.

The lava box also was a purchase that I soon tired of. It did okay, but just.... as some of you say....... well it got old.

Re: Seymour Duncan pedals - your experience

I own two. The tweak fuzz i bought when I got rid of the swollen pickle, which sounded good, but I wanted something simple. The tweak fuzz sounds ok. It does the fuzz face thing ok. You basically need to keep the gain an volume maxed. The tweak only sounds usable in positions 2 and 3. I don't use fuzz too often, so its fine with me.

I also have the déjà vu delay. I really love it. I dig having a simple looper ready when I need it. I love being able to controll the d/a blend and mod speed. Im extremely happy with it. I can't say I'd want anything else from a delay.

All that said, I bought both of these for reallllly cheap. I work at GC so i got the delay for 50 bucks and the fuzz for 30. I would never have gotten them at their regular prices. They were all very over priced.

+1

You can buy a Diamond Memory Lane Junior for the same price as the Deja Vu. Not even a competition.

If you mod you will hit unity gain with the vol knob at around 10:00 vs maxed out without the mod.
