Re: Seymour Duncan plater
Wouldn't that be more expensive than just buying replacement parts?
Why would you go to the custom shop? A replacement gold cover is $25.

beaubrummels,
I am getting frustrated by these questions. They expose several incorrect assumptions on your part, not least of which is that I don't possess basic knowledge of humbucker parts sources.
Here is a summary of the information I posted: 1) I have a set of Custom Shop pickups. 2) I want to return the gold plated metal trim parts to as-new condition. 3) I've asked the Custom Shop to either sell me new parts, or to swap out the old parts for new parts for me. Alternately, I'm looking for a plater for the original parts. 4) The Custom Shop will not sell me the parts. 5) The estimate to have the Custom Shop replace the trim parts is $250+tax+shipping.
That's what you know for sure.
Does that all sound like a guy looking for standard humbucker pickup covers, who just needs to be linked to them to solve the issue? You couldn't think that someone with, quite frankly, an
embarrassing number of posts on a pickup forum, doesn't know how to procure new humbucker cover through standard channels if that is what he/she needs.
What of that tells you that I need replacement covers? What of it tells you that I am even talking about humbucker pickups?
Why would the Custom Shop quote $125 each to throw on a new humbucker cover and screws on a Duncan pickup, when they will completely rewind one of their own humbucker pickups (disassemble, unwind, rewind, re-pot, re-install cover) for only $75?
Why would Duncan not sell me the parts? They stock humbucker covers, as you pointed out, so...
There is enough there. I don't need to spell out the exact answer to your question for you. Please just trust that I wouldn't be following this line of questioning without good reason.
Finally, I received the exact answer to my question via PM from a little birdie, to whom I am most grateful. It really made my day, as I was truly expecting no answers to come from this thread. So, case closed. Thank you.
