SEYMOUR DUNCAN STC-3M3 DISTORTS

I bought this preamp a couple of weeks ago, put in my bass connnected the battery, there comes a sound but it is rather low and distorted. First i thought it was the battert, changed and testet the conncetion/soldering on everything. Same sound. Now i wonder is the preamp fried ? Is there any way to find out what has happended ? Or should i just chew the loss and buy a new one ?

If you can provide pics, we might be able to help if we see something obvious. I don't think hooking it up to a battery can fry anything, and it could be a simple connection issue. If the purchase is a few weeks old, you could always return it, too.
