Seymourizer II Humbucker ???

I was doing some cleaning and ran across this bridge humbucker (4 conductor + ground) that has a chrome cover and a paper tag on the back that reads Seymourizer II. I don't remember where, why, what it came out of or how I even acquired it.

Anyone have experience with these? Is it dirty, clean, mellow, bright, dark... ????

Reads 6 ohms on each coil. I'm asking as I have a semi hollow that needs a bridge pickup and they are a pain in the arse to swap.

Oh... I did do a search and there really isn't a lot of info on these, what was the production years?

Thanks...

Re: Seymourizer II Humbucker ???

You sure it's a bridge humbucker?
The Seymourizer II was the neck position companion to the Duncan Distortion. I had a Seymourizer II in a guitar I used to own. I probably put it in the guitar in '89 or early 90's, and I think I traded the guitar away in like '95.

I think to avoid confusion, Duncan just changed the name to the Duncan Distortion neck.

Re: Seymourizer II Humbucker ???

Thats the old Duncan Distortion neck model. Thats 6k, btw, which puts it at around 12k total, which is the proper Distortion neck value.

Great old pickup. Sounds especially good split or parallel. Nice find.

Edit: Kosh beat me to it. :)

Re: Seymourizer II Humbucker ???

The reason I said bridge is that the wires are cut short like it was installed in the bridge position.

So it's a *dirty* pickup? I was hoping it would be a good clean pickup. Yep, I forgot the K, 12K seems like that would be pretty hot for a neck pickup.... maybe I should just add wire and try it neck position. Do you remember the value of the bridge PUP?

Any idea of the value of it? More than likely, I won't use it, if so, it needs to go to parts land.

Thanks for the info guys..

Artie, did you write once that you tried an A5 magnet in a Seymourizer II? If so, how did that turn out?

Re: Seymourizer II Humbucker ???

It's a pretty good bridge pickup imo i have tried it.If you are looking for something with less output than duncan custom a little less compressed and with a little less lowmids it will do perfectly. That's what i heard when i tried it in bridge position.Try to do a search i think many people have used it like that.If you don't hate the ceramic character in pickups and want something a little more over the edge than a paf you may like it

Re: Seymourizer II Humbucker ???

I believe the Seymourizer started out as a bridge model and it was later paired with the DD as the DDn. Even as the Distortion neck model it still carried the SEY sticker.

If your Seymourizer is an older bridge model the logo will be in the screw bobbin. DDn the logo is on the stud bobbin.

Not good. It lost all of the qualities that made it a Distortion, and gained nothing that couldn't be covered elsewhere, (better), by an off-the-shelf Duncan. Kinda like a 59n with the treble rolled off.
