Seymourizer IIs

So I have a 1978 Guild M-80 Special, and during a string change, I decided to check the pickups. When I did, I saw that the neck says "Seymourizer II" and the bridge says "Duncan Custom". Anything I could know about those?

he wound them on a machine. those are older for sure, someone else can probably nail down a year range, i dont have that info in front of me at the moment

Those are roughly 1976-1978 (possibly as late is 1980 on the Seymourizer II?)

But don't know what was done to the neck Seymourizer II. The cover has been off, so presumably a magnet swap.

Yeah the guitar is a '78, so that lines up. Do yall know if Guild used them, or if they just did the XR-7s?

Those are more like '79-'82 vintage. Earlier models had slotted baseplate (i.e. bobbin mounting) screws. Additionally, the "Seymourizer II" (i.e. SH-7) was first marketed under that name in 1979 if I recall correctly (same time that the SH-5 Custom was marketed as the "EVH" pickup).

I think that both covers are not standard and were installed later. Not just the Seymourizer II.

Seymourizer II - SH7 = SH6n nowadays. That pickup needs a proper revival, including a TB spacing option.

I don't know much about pickups, could you explain?
Also, I think the covers are standard as I've seen pics of them on Seymourizer IIs before (when trying to research).

FWIW - There are tons of reasons why you might want to add solder to a covered pickup that have nothing to do with modding. I've done it several times because the cover wasn't soldered tightly enough and made an audible rattle that you could hear when playing through the amp.
