Sweet, I like that telecaster Mr. SD was using, never seen one with a tunabridge.

Re: Seymour's Baked Potato Jam / pics*

Seymour playing a telegib?.. I'm shocked :22:  :burnout:

look at lynch's neck. thats pure dirt and grime. gotta love it!

Re: Seymour's Baked Potato Jam / pics*

I added a couple more action shots of George Lynch, per Gearjoneser's request ...

I took a good look at Seymour's telegib before editing that pic, and the grain is very tight .. it almost looks like mahogany to me!

What a great evening of guitar playing! First, everyone went to WLA Music, where Evan and Seymour talked about pickups and gave away prizes, then everyone gathered over to the famous Baked Potato. The Baked Potato is one of those classic old clubs that attracts the cream of the crop talent in the LA/Valley area, which Seymour even pointed out to the audience, by recalling the days when he used to go there and see players like Carlton and Brian Auger. The list of guitar stars who have graced that stage reads like a list of 'who's who.' Any night of the week, you can see guys like Lukather, S. Henderson, or Verheyen. I'll have to ask Evan fill us in on the other names, but the blues jams included Seymour of course, Lawrence Juber on strat, Adrian Galysh, George Lynch, Blues Saraceno, Dweezil Zappa, and Evan on his beautiful curlytop/P-90's. Jill is a heck of a bassist too, considering she and Evan had to keep control of the jams to keep all those guitar players from sounding like WWIII.
They didn't though. Seymour has a depth and coolness to his style that grabbed me the most, to be quite honest (and I'm not brown nosing). Adrian Galysh stayed tasteful throughout the jam, then blew the roof off the joint later during his headline set. I feel dumb saying this, but Adrian strikes a slight resemblance to Roy Buchanan, and there was a moment where Seymour and Adrian were trading off, and it reminded me of an old pic I remember of Seymour and Roy. G. Lynch standing next to Lawrence Juber was something you'll only see once in life! Ha Ha. Lawrence Juber, primarily a fingerstyle acoustic player really impressed me with his great musical interaction with the band. Playing alongside Paul McCartney translates into 'no slouch.' Of course, Lynch held down the 'rock' side of things, throwing out some blazing lickage. Both Blues Saraceno and Dweezil jumped up to add some licks to a few songs, but unfortunately I was trying to stay Lo Pro with my camera during their jams, due to the Baked Potato's policy of NO cameras. I forged ahead with my camera, nonetheless, but missed any good shots of them. Thank you, Mr. Doorman!!! After it came to an end, I was fortunate enough to get to meet Seymour, his singer/guitarist, and Evan a little more. What an honor to have my picture taken with Seymour outside the Baked Potato. I only regret not introducing myself properly and chatting longer, but he needed to pack up and drive several hours back to Santa Barbara, so I felt lucky as heck to get his son to snap a picture of us. It meant a lot. .....more on Adrian Galysh.....

Re: Seymour's Baked Potato Jam / pics*

I have to admit, I'm always skeptical about 'the newest greatest player' but am always intrigued enough to give them a chance to deliver the goods. I gotta say, within the first song of his set, he had a room of guitar players, including George Lynch, perking up to take notice. His style is very much in the same ballpark as Satriani, Hoey, Vai, but it's evident that he's got enough talent to carve a name for himself. Let's not forget about his tireless drumming badass, Charlie Waymire, who also played Seymour's entire set as a fill-in drummer. His drumming even garnered a comment from Seymour as he left the stage.....(Seymour) "You'll be at my studio in the morning, right?" What a great bassist, too! Philip Bynoe is a true bassist, in every sense of the word. A super nice and humble guy, but just threw the F down onstage! Great bass solo, too! Like I told him after the show..."utter sickness." He even had his beautiful and talented keyboardist adding her great texture and lines to Adrian's melodic sections.
As far as Adrian Ganysh, he is poised to become a name player very soon, so keep your eyes and ears peeled. I'm one of those guys who crosses his arms, wondering what to expect. Let me tell you, the guy's chops made me sit there and go "damn."
I watched the expression on Lynch's face a few songs into his set, and even Lynch was going "damn." Ha Ha. Overall, I really enjoyed his music, and was even compelled to chat with both his bassist and him after the show, even buying a CD off Adrian. I listened to it in my car, just to make sure I wasn't just high off the excitement of the night. No, he rips. His songs are well structured, and he has everything it takes to stand alongside players of the same style. Satriani comes to mind, not to cut Adrian short, but that's the style. He may have to overcome comparisons, and the more he strays from the comparison, the better, but all in all, he'll leave you satisfied, both on CD, and especially live. I recommend that you check him out at www.adriangalysh.com and buy his CD. I don't regret buying mine.

Joneser,
cool,
I had no idea you were taking the pictures under duress ...

I would've loved to have made it up there, but work gets in the way sometimes!

Re: Seymour's Baked Potato Jam / pics*

Re: Seymour's Baked Potato Jam / pics*

I added a couple pictures of Evan.

also, I apologize for not knowing Jill's last name, or the name of a couple of the players - the blonde haired guy playing the strat, and the guy playing the Brian Moore.

Re: Seymour's Baked Potato Jam / pics*

great read and great pics!!!

Re: Seymour's Baked Potato Jam / pics*

Great post. Great pics. Jill's last name is Avery. If you saw the movie "Twins" with Danny DeVito and the Governator, there's a bar scene where the band playing in the background is Jeff Beck's. Jill was the bassist in that band. The tall, blonde guy who was throwing down with George and handling vocals duty is Chris Manning.

Great to meet you too, Gearjonser. And any other SDFers who showed up for the clinic and jam. It was a really fun night. I've talked to all the "special guests" since the show, and they all had a good time too.

FYI, George's involvement stemed from a comment he made to me in Japan last month. Something like, "I'd love to jam the blues with you and Seymour." Careful what you wish for, George!

If you're in Canada, look for Seymour and me to be passing through Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver towards the end of next month. Watch this board for details.

Re: Seymour's Baked Potato Jam / pics*
