Which will be better ?
SD Aph-1 set or Aph-1 in neck and Pearly Gates in bridge ?
Made my choise about the neck pickup, but not sure about bridge.

What's installed at the moment? Of what I've heard of APH-1s online, I don't find them much of a move away from 490Rs to my ears.

Re: seymours for SG

i just tried a few sets of pickups in my SG including a PG bridge which i found a little lacking on low end compared to the alnicoII'59 model i have in the neck. Ive ended up with a custom custom in the bridge which matches up quite nicely.
I reckon you could probably do well with a 59, or an APH in the neck, but something a little hotter in the bridge addresses the inherent characteristics of an SG nicely.

A pair of '59's works well in SG's, as would a pair of A2P's, which are very good PU's. '59's would have more treble and bass, with scooped mids. A2P's are warmer, fuller with more mids.

I'm a big fan of Pearly Gates in SGs. That's what I'd choose personally.

Re: seymours for SG

When I bought my SG Standard, I immediately swapped the 490s for a pair of '59s and played it that way for a couple years. It sounded pretty good, but wasn't 100% what I was looking for tone-wise. Last summer I swapped again to a pair of Phat Cats and it's much closer. I think the final step will be getting rid of the Phat Cat's A2s for A4/A5 in the neck and A5/A8 in the bridge.

Those are great magnet pairs I came up with a few years ago. Work great in any P-90, and in warm woods they're much better than the stock A2's in Phat Cats.
